Tuti island is where the Blue Nile and White Nile flow together. You can park near the bridge and walk over the ridge to see the island, which has small local shops and restaurants.

We woke up at 5 a.m. and were able to watch the sun rise from the island, which was very special as we were the only ones on this particular stretch of beach for a good distance. I would certainly recommend it for those who are in Khartoum for more than a few days.

I didn't personally wander around the island but those who did said it was an enjoyable experience, and far bigger than expected. At weekends, it seems to be a haven for people to relax and spend time by the Nile.

Fun island. Lots of activities: horse riding, boating, triking, sitting on plastic chairs in the water drinking coffee, etc. Nice way to "get down" with the locals and have fun.

We cruised around the island on a Nile confluence boat trip. The locals are always there on the beach area, sitting on plastic chairs in the river. It's very popular with the locals.

It's an easy walk from the Grand Holiday Villa or the Corinthian over the bridge and onto this island in the middle of the Nile River. If you walk off to the left (West) after crossing, you will immediately come upon fields of crops with the occasional farmer. Look closely to see the brickworks off near the waterfront, sometimes they are hard to spot in the distance among the fields. They are maybe only a 10 to 15 minute walk from the bridge. The brickmakers seem happy to have visitors and don't mind you walking around.

Although the island is just across the river from Khartoum city and the impressive Corinthia Hotel is visible from parts of it, it may as well be on Mars considering how underdeveloped it is.

As is usual in Sudan the people make it, but it’s very poor and the main industry, brick making, is primitive.

The town is a maze of unpaved streets and getting lost seems obligatory. Fortunately, a lovely young women rescued me!

Crops are grown and are irrigated by water pumped from the Nile. Goats are fed with alfalfa.

There’s a small pottery industry - of pots and water containers.

A sizeable number of new houses are being built in the centre - possibly by returning emigres who’ve done well.

There’s an old fort almost hidden in the undergrowth. Look out for it near to the point where the confluence of the Nile can be observed. It’s even got an almost hidden sign!

The island has huge, untapped potential. I hope it’s realised soon.

Tuti used to be a tranquil haven in the centre of the Three Towns, accessible only by ferry. Now, thanks to bridges, it's just another suburb
