This is a wonderful sanctuary, GFAS accredted, doing great work. These chimps are not truly living "in the wild". They come in to sleep (they are trained to do so so they won't tear up their limited range creating nests) and to eat (they also forage in the forest but would deplete those resources). The sanctuary has a small gift... More

I didn't know about the Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary and was out on Lake Victoria fishing for Nile Perch when my friend suggested we visit. It can be a rough old ride across to the island but the charter I saw was well equipped and the large family that got off seemed to be none the worse for the trip... More

The boat ride was tough going as windy so I suggest you bring a spare T shirt and shorts just in case as despite the rain gear I got wet through. They are doing amazing work there and it was great to see the chimps so close up all with such different personalities and traits. The guide was good and... More

After one-day vegging went to Chimpanzee Sanctuary on Ngamba Island one hour off shore and just across the Equator – although we peered intently, we couldn’t actually see it but were informed we indeed pass over it! In any case, Entebbe is on the Equator and when the sun comes out, it gets seriously hot. . Excellent Guide Bryon introduced... More

This was a truly memorable place to visit and stay. I can't recommend it more highly- it is a place that will stay with me for many years. I was not sure if it was worth the cost of going to visit the sanctuary but it really was one of those stand out places to visit. It was especially great... More

You get to see the chimps being fed several times as day and you can participate yourself as well if you want :) the lunch on the island is rather expensive for Uganda but I can understand how it's not cheap to make a proper good meal on a remote island. Recommend if you wanna see a load of chimps.... More

45+ rescued and orphaned chimps have been provided sanctuary on a forested Lake Victoria island--Ngamba. Visitors can interact with chimps and join in caretaker activities. (Check you have all the necessary vaccinations before you go, we share 98.7% of the same DNA as chimps). The work of the Chimpanzee Sanctuary and Wildlife Conservation Trust is impressive; as well as the... More

My friend and I had a day on our own before our chimp and gorilla tracking tour started. We learned about the Jane Goodall-founded Sanctuary for chimps which had been orphaned or otherwise compromised in the wild (snares; poachers, etc.) on this Lake Victoria island just a 50 minute boat ride from Entebbe. The Sanctuary is run by dedicated conservationists.... More

Please visit this Sanctuary. You will not be disappointed. The boat ride to the Island, with a passage of the Equator, is an added treat. The chimpanzees are heartbreakingly cute, the staff is amazing. How comforting to know that such a place exist. Please visit if you have the opportunity!!

I stayed here for 2 nights/3 days in December 2016. I HIGHLY recommend this place as it is a truly unique experience. Everything was first class from the luxury tents, food, itinerary and staff. A special shout out to Grace, John, and Paul for making this an unforgettable experience.
