My friend and I took a 10 day course at the Kopan monastery and it was one of the best experiences. The accommodation is not at all ascetic as ones might expect, but really comfortable and nice. The place itself is gorgeous with amazing views, beautiful garden, and peaceful atmosphere. And the course is really priceless! With knowledgeable teachers, great... More

Spare yourself a long walk and climb. And check if it's open before you go up there. Despite it being a nice view over Kathmandu. You'll only be seeing a closed gate and a guard saying no visitors. The best time to go here would be at lunch time. Dont go at 15:00+

I attended the meditation course here back in January. The teacher was kind and knowledgeable. The shared accommodation is basic and very comfortable. The food is delicious. It's difficult to summarise my experience at this monastery, but it was very positive and I have taken many learnings with me.

Very nice views over Kathmandu from the compound. Pity that the monastery was closed when i was there. From here it is a nice walk to Boudhanath

We had quite a time getting to the monastery due to road work but it was well worth it. The gardens behind the main temple are stunning with some of the most impressive statues we saw during our visit to Nepal. They also had a small gift shop with some nice items at good prices. We tried to make the... More

A wonderful Tibetan Buddhist (Gelugpa) monastery on a hill on the northern edge of Kathmandu with great views over the city (on a clear day).. The monastery offers numerous retreats and courses to serious Dharma students, but much of it is also open to the casual visitor. A great place to get out of the dust and noise of KTM... More
