Simply put, I had such an amazing time.
To try and leave for review for something that was so spiritually moving and in many ways, life changing, seems unfair as the experience itself was practically indescribable.
The whole process never felt like I was in a school or consciously learning at any point. It felt really organic and very much more like I was hanging out with friends and people that I looked up to. Of course, chemistry is really important, so it helps to get along with your teacher and other students. Go with an open mind and prepare to be blown away.
I definitely felt like I learnt a lot, but not in rote or repetitive way. It was through intelligent discourse and active listening, along with lots of meditation and yoga (which is a given, since you're doing a yoga teacher training course). I overcame a lot of personal hurdles, and absorbed a lot of things more so than if I had to memorise them or take test. The best way to describe it is to say that I didn't just complete a course, I experienced it and I felt it deep to my bones.
I experienced what it's like to live with strangers for 4 weeks, and become friends at the end of it. I experienced pure companionship and love without bounds in just one month. I felt myself breaking out of the boxes that I had put myself in before. I experienced what it was like to live without all the trappings and accoutrements of modern life and feel just pure joy, plain and simple. I felt alive, like I've never felt before. A deep connection to Mother Earth, and an awakening spiritual awareness. It's been hard to try and keep that connection now that I'm back in Shanghai, but I'll always think back to the moment of standing before a majestic waterfall and just feeling that the whole world was alive.
I would encourage anyone with an open mind to do this course.
I think it's important to note that we are all on our own journeys, and no one is perfect, but we can each help each other along the way. If you're willing to look beyond yourself, you'll find the entire universe is out there waiting.

I had the privilege to be the first student to benefit from the new 'Gurukulam' programme offered by Yogi-Nomad in Nepal. Practising yoga for several years, I enrolled in this programme looking for its genuine spirit and thus means to go beyond my physical asana practice, aspirations my yoga studio in Hong Kong was unable to fully fulfil. But what I found in Kathmandu is much more than a regular yoga teacher training.
As a dedicated yoga practitioner, Gaby is an avid learner, constantly looking for new teachings, workshops and long-term trainings to improve his own understanding of yoga and get closer to its goals. This makes a huge difference, as yoga teachers too often tend to abandon their student spirit. As a passionate teacher, he shared his invaluable knowledge without restrictions, combining a variety of influences (martial arts, Vedic studies, Buddhism, psychology, physical and subtle anatomy, traditional Hatha yoga practices, Ayurveda, Tantra and more) into a unique curriculum that fitted my personal interests, needs and limitations, while allowing unsuspected personal experiences at the physical, energetic, emotional and mental levels. I was exposed to a large array of practices and lesser-known disciplines, which would have taken me years - if at all - to discover by myself! The 1-on-1 formula was another unique advantage of this course, as it provided regular teaching hours, flexible time for self-practice, as well as long and inspirational informal discussions. Gaby is a genuine yoga messenger, for he gave me the tools, showed me the path, but let me figure out what to do next on my own. So, I left this 5 weeks intensive programme understanding (quite excitedly!) that it is only the beginning of my true yoga journey...
Two days before leaving, Gaby discreetly (yet deliberately) wrote the following quote on the white board: 'Not hammer strokes, but dance of the water, sings the pebbles into perfection' (Rabindranath Tagore). I am deeply indebted to him, for I know his teachings will act upon me as the river on the pebbles.

I left early because a very odd intervention of my 'teachers' based on what they thought was a lack of commitment and presence in meditation and a few mistakes in my Sanskrit spelling, and one mistaken posture in my teaching syllabus. I took it very personally but realized it was more to do about them then it had to do with me. I will admit I am not some rock star, super flexible yogi. I do the best I can with what I have and take in as much as I can. If I have to move or make modifications or ask for help, I will do such a thing but from what they told me this was not acceptable to them.
The teachers said I was not present enough. To judge someones presence is a incredibly hard thing to do. I have sat two Vipassana meditations before and am not sure how they measured this, and who or what they were comparing me to. What I love about yoga is that we are not judged when we come to practice, yoga is just a practice and about connecting breath to movement, but somewhere in all this it got lost. Val (owner of yogi nomad) mentioned being treated worse than this on her own personal training sessions. It made me think that they got taught that being mean or harsh as a technique, and they thought would be effective with me. It most definitely was not effective, and quite the opposite.
Lots of hypocritical statements and actions were placed on the entire group I was a part of that made little or no logical sense. We were even told we couldn't go the bathroom at one point (we are in Nepal, some of us had to go!)
The logic on who they would give a certificate and who couldn't became an ego game, and it was something very ugly to witness. Injuries started piling up during the training sessions of very Ashtanga focused repetitive stress, and not giving modifications. All the instructors also were what I witnessed to be very rude to some students, and others were ignored and treated poorly. It was a very odd situation that actually turned me off of yoga for quite some time. I realized that anyone could really teach and run a yoga teacher training and there is no accountability or foundation when it comes to who can run one of these trainings or nothing you can do if something like this happens on your course. All I can say after 15 years of practicing yoga is that I will never ever do any training with teachers I do not know well again. I will only train and practice and learn from those I do trust and I would recommend the same to you.
I really did enjoy the Thai massage training. This was taught very well, but because they are a part of this package it really didn't help the situation.
I did receive an apology from the teacher who taught the physically yoga classes named Neera but I already decided to leave.

Dear Veggy 8008 / Vanessa,
Thanks for sharing your point of view. Of course it is disappointing to see that despite the time you have not been able to see beyond your original vision. I can only hope that with time you will get a chance to see the other side and in the process be less bitter about what happened to you in Nepal in 2011.
One of the main lesson of Yoga is to be able to take feed back not from the Ego point of view but as a opportunity to move forward, to grow and evolve. We do not pretend to be perfect but leaving because of a feed back tells more about you than about us.
It would have been honest to mention in your feed back that you received a 100% scholarship for your training based on your words that you would commit fully and thrive to excellence.
As far as yogi-nomad is concerned, I would worry if all review where like yours, but fortunately for us it is an exception.
With Love&Light, Gaby

I learned an abundance and Truth and wisdom from Gaby and Val and feel truly blessed to have experienced the training and teachings I received from the training. It gave a fundamental background of the pure teachings of how to fully understand the essence of yoga. I wouldn't be the teacher I am today with the support and guidance from these amazing teachers. Thank you Spirit for guiding me home:)

I remember myself sitting in a plane to kathmandu in april 2012. I was pretty nervous because it was my first travel to a non - europe county, all by my self and for a quite long time. I was 19 back then and I have never been more than three weeks away from home.
Anyways, I can still recall the first day in Nepal, the first time I met the other people of my group who have travelled all around the world to experience the teacher training. Immediately i fell in love with all of them, I was very lucky to have the chance to meet so many interesting, loving and friendly souls. During the six weeks we grew together, gave support and watched everyone´s development. Of course it can get tense sometime when everybody is about to transform but the group held together and still does.
But all of this would not have been possible without Gaby and Val, who took care of me the moment I set foot on nepali ground. They worked 24/7 for our wellbeing and contentment. I have learned not only about Yoga and all it´s related topics en masse, I got tools to live more conscious, aware, healthy and peaceful. What I have learned during this six weeks is probably the greatest gift I have ever received in my life, because it never gets old or brakes. It will always be in my heart and soul.
Thank you!

Reflecting back to where I was a year ago (before and during the training) verses where I am now, I can’t help but smile and feel such an overwhelming thankfulness and gratitude for the positive growth and peace that has developed. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Gaby, Val and Yoga Tara for being such a huge part in this change. With all the love, support and guidance, even now that the training is over, Yogi Nomad's loving energy is still with me and I will remain forever grateful for the experience.
The infinite amount of knowledge, passion and loving support that is put into the Yogi Nomad training is truly remarkable. I highly recommend this program to anyone who is looking to take their yoga/ life to a higher level.

Yogi-nomad was bay far one of the best experiences I have had in my life. As the days gone on I realise more and more how the experiences have helped me
And transformed many different areas of my life. As the weeks go on I see my self acting differently, with more awareness and consciousness in many different circumstances as the magic of the course reveals its self as time goes on . It is an course that is not just merely for the 6 weeks of the course it is something to carry with you from then on!
The course its self is extremely interesting and exposed me to many aspects of yoga and Ayurveda which I had previously not known about and hence has totally opened me up to the whole new world of potential study. The course has a strong emphasis on philosophy and Auveda which I found extremely fascinating and exciting. I came away feeling that the knowledge is complete, not only how to teach yoga asana.
The teachers are extremely valuable each having their own special gift to bring to the course, providing an extremely fully verity of learning encompassing many styles of yoga and Thai massage. The attention to detail and care that the organisers had not only during the course but also along time before and after was really out-standing which resulted in brilliant, challenging and totally life changing experience which taught me more then just to become a yoga teacher.
A brilliant course attracts brilliant people and that was just a bonus to share six week with some really
amazing human beings. Thanks you so much Yogi-nomad.

I can say I did not leave this training the same person. What attracted me to it was the understanding that there is so much more to Yoga than just the physical practice, and we dove into all the aspects of Yoga. I left this training feeling like family and knowing that my own personal understanding and practice of Yoga has been deeply rooted into my daily life. Thank you thank you thank you.

The yoga teacher training with Yogi Nomad has been to me the kind of experience that stays in your heart forever. It is a very deep and true approach to yoga in all of its forms, very complete, and nicely interlaced with thai massage. Today, I teach yoga almost everyday in Mexico, and there is not one single class in which my Yogi Nomad teachers are not present! My life is marked, in the best way possible, since Yogi Nomad TT and beautiful Nepal.

Ana Paula, your words are sweet and it is comforting to know that you are bringing the Himalayan light to Mexico. Lucky the days our path crossed, let;s hope the forces which run our universe will allow our path to cross again so we can bring together the remote members of the Yogi-nomad family together. Love from the Himalayas. G
