I was born in Bangrak but moved to live in this area for 20 years. Banglumpoo has been changing all the time as its places for tourists. The buildings were sold to second hand, third hand more and more. Some are doing hotel business, some are doing hostel or guest house business. There are not many citizen live in this... More

This market is close to Khao San Road and is popular with tourists as well as locals. Stalls here sell Thai made products like clothes, jeans, sneakers and household items at bargain prices. There are also secondhand bookstores and numerous internet cafes.

If you don't need to buy clothes, fabric or other stuff in wholesale then you don't have to go there.

During my 4 weeks of vacation in Thailand and Cambodia, I used Bangkok as my home base on 3 occasions. This neighborhood has a lot to offer, things catering to the needs of travelers. Hotels, foods, drinks, souvenirs are plenty and cheap. Travel agencies are almost next to each other, making day trips and excursions competitively priced. Major attractions are... More

Most of the denizens of this area of Bangkok reminded me of the way my friends and I looked and acted in the late 60s - early 70s. Small shops and market stalls line every sidewalk and though a lot of the merchandise on offer is youth-oriented, I still managed to find a couple of great souvenirs. My husband passed... More

The area where the famous backpacker street Khao saan road is located has grown up over the last decade. Now there are trendy bars, pubs and restaurants sprinkled amongst all the shopping opportunities, hostels and hotels. The area caters both for the western budget traveler as the affluent Thai crowd. Basically well worth a visit both day and night.

Staying in Banglamphu

Neighbourhood Profile
While you’ll see skyscrapers in most parts of Bangkok, it’s the gilded roofs of ancient pagodas that adorn the skyline of Banglamphu, the city’s historical and most touristic district. Hordes of tourists flock to this area to tick quite a few must-see attractions off their to-do list, with the Grand Palace being the most spectacular of them all. Banglamphu is also home to Bangkok’s infamous tourist ghetto, centered around Khao San Road. Visit at night to feast on road-side pad thai, cheap beers and if you’re up for it, some dancing fueled by buckets of Thai whiskey.
