Hard to Miss!

Don't miss the Thae Pae Gate. It is the entrance to heart of the old city. Large plaza hosts many special events.

This "historic" spot is a fun tourist location. Always pigeon to feed, buskers playing and Starbucks/McDonalds on the corner.

The plaza in front of the gate was covered in pidgeons being fed by tourists, there is often entertainment here as well. Look out for the man giving away free hugs, a special little concept. Near the walking streets and markets. A great starting point for your walking tour of the old city.

Yes, it's the start of the Sunday night market which is impressive just for its scale - lots of things to buy and places to eat. It is also the focus of the Thai new year water festival.

Parades, festivals, beauty pageants, markets--they all happen (or pass by) this main gate into Chiang Mai's Old City. Great place for people watching.

This is the main gate into Old town Chiang Mai. They had live music playing most days that we were there in this area. It's just a very pretty area of the wall.

Tha Phae Gate is the best place to begin your exploration of the city. It is a landmark to reference your location, it is close to many Chiang Mai cultural highlights, and on the weekends there is a wonderful night market.

This is a most if you want to see a true relic, the entrance to the old town of Chiang Mai. There is not much to see but the plaza in front of it is full of life, with people gathering around to talk and enjoy the weather.
