Of course, nice temples are a dime a dozen in Chiang Mai. Still, if you get a chance it's a nice place to walk through. Check out the amazing 700-year-old chedi surrounded with elephants, that's what sets Chiang Man apart from the others.

Quiet grounds, ancient-looking elephant sculputured structure, great photo-op. Nice place to hang for a while. Beautiful lotus blossoms in large planters also make for great photo op. Sculpted elephant-shaped bushes. Park bench. Very relaxing.

The elephants pagoda is interesting and unique - the temple itself was nice as well, worth adding to a day trip around town - you can cover it easily in an hour

Had the temple to myself at 6 a.m. Very meditative to be there alone with the many elephants at the shrine looking down on me.

This place is distinguished by the structure with lots of elephants on the ground of the stupa, very impressive building and also there are smaller temple pavilions around.

I was told by my tour guide that this is oldest temple in the city built probably in 13th century. The architecture of the building was worth admiring. The temple seemed to be maintained very well. In comparison to the other temples this one stands...More

Wat Chiang Man (Thai: วัดเชียงมั่น) is the oldest Buddhist temple inside the old city. Although construction was ordered by King Mangrai in the late 1200's in his "new" capital city, more buildings were added in later centuries so the temple complex reflects various architectural styles...More

You can spend quite some time here just admiring this temple and soaking up the atmosphere. Take your time as there is so much to see. Do be mindful that there are quite a large number of crooked tuk tuk drivers out the front waiting...More

Ok, I got to the Wat Chiang Man at 6 a.m. Had it to myself. ;-). But did have to contend with a barking big brown dog who disliked my presence. ;-(.
