Had a great time at Patara. Our head guide was very friendly although the rest of the staff (elephant trainers) did not speak much English. You spend the day building a relationship with 1 elephant- learning commands and how to communicate. Then you ride at the end for about an hour. It was pretty petrifying but fun all at once.... Wow. That's really all I should say, but I guess i'll go a little deeper for you. There are a ton of touristy animal-related things to do in Thailand. After doing a lot of research, I just knew that the tigers weren't for us. We knew we wanted to spend a day at an elephant sanctuary, but knew that we... More

We did the full Elephant Owner for a Day and it was hands down the best part of our entire trip. I have a love for elephants so to see a place and get to experience firsthand the beauty and love of these amazing animals, it was incredible. We played with the babies, learned about the health and history of... More

Do not miss this experience whilst in Chiang Mai. We booked in with our hotel and were picked up by a Patara minibus right on time. There was only a small group of us, 8 adults and our baby. Patara is just over an hours drive from the city centre and the farm is in the mountains, for those who... More

Elephants are endangered. Patara combats that through a successful breeding program, using formerly neglected and abused elephants. The elephants don't perform stupid tricks. You interact with them in their natural environment. You will be assigned an elephant to feed, brush, bathe and finally, if you wish, ride -- not in a basket like a maharajah but bareback with just a... More

Booked this tour late so I was able to book a half day tour. It was wonderful and educational. The connection between you and the animal is exciting and fun. It is everything you want feeding an elephant, grooming an elephant, bathing your big girl or boy, pampering your elephant will linger forever in your mind.

My girlfriend and I had an amazing encounter feeding, bathing and riding the elephants at Patara. There are many reviews on trip advisor that elaborate in detail about this first class operation and we are in total agreement. One person commented that they felt pressured for tips at the end and that was NOT our experience. Don't miss this if... More

We planned our visit to Patara months before our trip to Thailand. We chose it after reading all the great reviews and did not want to go to an elephant place where these amazing creatures are mis-treated as we knew people that had and regretted it. We got picked up on time and headed out to the farm. Drive was... More

This is not the usual touristy elephant show. This is a small group (about 16 people a day --- be sure to reserve well in advance) experience of close interaction with elephants. You are assigned your own elephant and trainer for the day (I actually had a mom and baby, while my wife had a cute female). Your learn commands,... More

This experience is incredible. Its more expensive than the traditional elephant encounters, but you get a better experience, connection, and photos (probably) of elephants. I came on a couples trip with my boyfriend and he was minorly skeptical of why I would want to pay so much for this activity when there were so many other, cheaper options. We did... More
