Nowadays a minor basilica, the church of Our Lady of La Vang is currently in the process of constructing a large new building that will be very impressive indeed. The old church was destroyed in the 19th century when Catholics were being persecuted in Vietnam by the government of the day, and the remains we see today stand peacefully in... More

This is fascinating site that you can add it to your DMZ trip from Hue or Da Nang. Your tour guide will tell you a long story about this historical sanctuary and Vietnamese culture. I advise that you should book one day trip to Quang Tri province to study about the second Indochina war and the excellent Vinh Moc tunnels.

The history of the area gave me a great insight into the culture of the Vietnamese people, how the rulers of the area became... More

Vast area. Loved the Marion's grotto and the old church. Mother Mary dressed in local Vietnamese style. Peaceful to walk around to reflect.

The Marian shrine in La Vang 60 kms west of Hue is the most sacred place for Vietnamese Christians. It is the site of a holy apparition by the Virgin Mary in the 18th century witnessed by several hundred people during the Great Persecution that saw 117,000 Vietnamese Christians killed from 1798 to 1886 thru an official royal edict. The... More
