You can't say you've been to Hanoi if you didn't wander around the old quarter. It's busy, lively, full of small shops, cafes and restaurants. Still very traditional.

There's loads of places for a beer. There's a couple of places right on the lakeside and plenty of places overlooking the lake. Lots of cafes/bars/ restaurants around the streets.
