This is a really run down area with lots of rusting structures, it's unkempt, untidy and a blot on the landscape and probably most unhealthy fir people living on the fringes. BUT it's the heritage of the Azerbaijani oil industry and a unique site to visit. The rusting derrocks, the 'nodding donkeys', some defunct, some working and some barely moving... More

Boom Town is an industrial area where I do not like to be more. Pollution is bothering and you can feel smell of oil there.

Avoid Baku. It is an expensive and dirty city run by corrupted regime of Dictator Aliyev. Police is brutal and follow you everywhere.

Driving past this on the bus it is really amazing to see all the wells ghostly moving up and down. I don't know if there is any formal way to visit this place but I'm sure you could just get off the bus and take pictures. If you have your own car its probably the best option.

Amazing experience, must see, If you have a little bit time, to drive around Baku. Install good gps navigation, you will be surprised how is this industry, oil industry working. Oil and mud everywhere, be aware of rainy days, or bring a solid boots.

They are still working!!!! Small but unfailing. Slowly they pump the oil. But most amazing that some of them are almost in the center of the city!

If you are interested in oil, it will be fun! It is interesting to see all of the pumps working :) It's not your typical tourist trip, but it is really interesting :)

Baku was one of the first places in the world, where crude oil was found and exploited in vast quantities. The location is out of town, about 1 hr drive.

Azerbaijan is a small country with very rich sources of oil and natural gas. If you are curious to see the power beyond Azerbaijan, you might consider to visit here.

After reading the reviews, mostly the Russians, I think I missed something, we drove past it on our way to the fire temple, and it looked in no way interesting, but I think now maybe it was. It was interesting to see the industrial aspects of the oil business. Wouldn't have been fun though to have seen the Caspian when... More
