- tigerbroTaipei, Taiwan149 contributionsA place to buy run-of-the-mill souvenirsThe most impressive thing about this market is the dome roof in the middle. The wet market part is interesting too. If you want cheap, low quality souvenirs, you can get them here. Don't pay more than $2 for a basic touristy T-shirt.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 October 2023
- Ronelle T7 contributionsCentral MarketThe architecture of the building was amazing. In the centre of town, easy to get to. Went on two different days and wasn't busy. The stall holders were friendly and very helpful with sizes and colours. There were stalls selling jewellery, clothing, bags, shoes. Fancy wedding clothing, household items. There were even nail and hair salons. On one side you can see the wet market for meat, seafood and vegetables. Definitely worth a visit.Visited November 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 25 November 2023
- Rachel MBirmingham, United Kingdom14 contributionsGood if you want to haggle and buy cheap giftsFirst of all opening times we asked 3 people all told us different we got 6.30am-8am we went around 8.30am and things were not open ( we left at 9.30am and not everything was open) so i would say after 10am is better time to go. Bad points: Only a few benches to sit and i think these are for the locals/stall owners. No where to sit and have a drink you have to buy a drink off someone if you can find someone and walk around with it. Stalls are everywhere not easy to find your way around outside. Outside places don't want to haggle on prices and they are expensive! You can find everything you would want here, clothes, bags, tourist tot, shoes, food, flowers you name it. BUT you have to haggle some places selling fake bags for $150- $300! when they should be around $10-$30. Fridge magnets prices are crazy $6 we ended up with 4 of them for $3. So just make you you ignore the price they give you and pay normal price. tuk tuk was costing us $1 from the river to here and hundreds of them around ( tip download the grab app, see how much they are charging for a tuk tuk then you will know how much to ask for with your tuk tuk driver haggle with them is a must) The building is lovely very art deco inside. this is a local market and the smells and state of some of it will turn your stomach hygine is not something they practice here.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 November 2023
- Damian WPerth, Australia175 contributionsLove this placeThere’s so much going on here. Lots of great clothes and bits and pieces. If you can’t find a bargain here you aren’t looking hard enough. Some great characters in there. Don’t haggle too hard, get a first price, move them down a bit and show your appreciationVisited December 2023Travelled soloWritten 28 December 2023
- DotsGirl2Vancouver, Canada452 contributionsLarge market with an amazing assortment of goods - none that I wantedThis is a really large market with four wings plus stalls all around. The middle is filled with jewelry counters and each wing seems to specialize in clothing, house wears etc. I am a retired lady and don’t really need anything. What I did find interesting were the areas where haircuts, pedicures and sewing were being done. We spent about 45 minutes hereVisited January 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 1 February 2024
- TheLush101Cardiff, United Kingdom2,467 contributionsHaggle for some bargainsWorth a quick trip and make sure you've got your haggling hat on. The architecture of the building is very colonial. Like most Asian markets, things are grouped so if you can't find what you want, wander a bit more. I got some good sports tops (Under Armour) for the price I'd pay for one back in the UK - they might not be the real ones, but I think some stuff is definitely legit as many big companies manufacture in Cambodia. The stall holders all speak good English and if they haven't got what you want on display, then their relative in the stall opposite will find it for you!Visited December 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 31 March 2024
- Zhen Juan HCheriton Bishop, United Kingdom5 contributionsCentral Market A Must-VisitShopping at Central Market is an exhilarating experience that offers a vibrant blend of local culture and commerce. The market, housed in a stunning Art Deco building, is a bustling hub where you can find everything from fresh produce and exotic spices to unique handicrafts and stylish clothing. The variety of goods available is impressive, and the vendors are friendly and eager to assist.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 May 2024
- bladdamastaManly, Australia1,008 contributionsVisit for the architectureThe shopping isn’t too bad, but I liked visiting for the architecture - particularly the inside. Like most of these markets, there’s plenty for the tourists and the locals alike. I bought fake Raybans and the obligatory Angkor beer shirt. They have sizes for fat blokes, so it is all good.Visited May 2024Travelled soloWritten 25 May 2024

This is a must go if you are in Phnom Phen. You can buy every souvenir you will ever want here. Prices are very fair and expect to barter. This is not just a tourist spot as many locals shop here too. Some of my favorite purchases from here are table cloths, bags made from recycled cement bags, t-shirts, pepper, cashews, knock off ibuds, and knock off designer purses.
The little shops that sell food are amazing. I had rice with meat at a few of the different shops and it was very good. Also, make sure to grab an iced coffee while you are shopping.
I did not purchase but really enjoyed just browsing all the fresh flowers here as well.
All the shops accepted both US dollars as well as Cambodian riel. I would recommend having small bills if you are paying in US dollars.

This indoor market is a bind blowing experience for any western travelers ..... there is nothing quite like it in Europe.
A tightly packed, crowded, vibrant, noisy and colourful shopping experience, whether you are shopping or watching the locals. Everything you could possibly want under one roof.

I don't want to offend anyone, we were told by the locals that this is the best place to find the souvenirs. Unfortunately, we were not able to find anything we would like to buy, the majority of the things we saw were very cheap looking jewelry (unless you know the exact place there with nice products). If you are not an expert in gem stones and silver - I'd suggest that you won't be able to identify if you are buying fake or real things. Some of the stone-carved animal figures were quite expensive, but did not look like they were made from the natural stone. You can also find all kinds of scarves and metal dishes there. The building itself is from the colonial times and looks interesting, especially from the above. It's very crowded. You can also find real flowers there.

Looking for a hat , wood cravings , key chain for that office colleague ? Then this is the place for it. If you have a lot of cash you will have the time of your life here finding everything that you need or don't need to stuff into your luggage bag if it is still not full. Prices are reasonable but you have to bargain start off with atleast 50% off the stated price. Then work from there. The choices here are endless so they can cater to your every taste or style.

Large busy interesting outside and in door market with a small food court. Lots of different items being sold from fruits, food, clothes and jewellery ect. Just be careful you don’t get over charged as when they see you are a western they try and charge you more than double , tell them what you want to pay if they don’t accept go to someone else. I wanted a small tub of strawberries one lady said $30 and would not budge, another lady said $15, I finally payed $2. Another tip is to down load the Grab app to use for Tut Tuks and taxis it is a lot cheaper and easier than haggling with them in the street. We learnt this quickly as first day we got a Tuk tuk outside hotel and charged us $5 with Grab it was only $1.

A visit in Phnom Penh won’t be completed without a visit at the Central market as the Art Deco building architecture is amazing. You can walk around between the stalls freely and all kind of products are available. Souvenirs such as fridge magnets, t-shirts are all easily available and it would be recommended to bargain as they are usually open to negotiation.

Went by TUk Tuk for 4 dollars to this market. I bought some good quality T shirts and a Patek Phillipe watch here, My wife bought a silk purse and we bought a carved wooden reclining Buddha. Everything was very reasonably priced. The market has everything from fish, meat and vegetable stalls to nail bars, sewing tables, card games and everything in between. Great experience.

The art deco dome is great. Otherwise, the more negative reviews here are spot-on: It's tourist-trappy, and all haggling is doomed to fail because vendors have no incentive to give you an adequate price. Also, "you can buy everything here" is nonsensical - this is a very restricted place, and the goods offered are less than 10% of what a normal department store would have. That said, Cambodia is not a country for shopping because almost nothing is made here (but imported from Thailand and Vietnam). Cheap clothes are sometimes an exception, and there is some great quality art etc but none of that is sold here. Enjoy Central Market, but not for shopping.

Hi, pick a nice hotel anywhere in Phnom Phen, near the river is quite nice. Transport in Tuk Turks, or taxis is cheap. If you like to walk in and around the the streets, we saw some nice hotels in the city as well. Central Markets is only one attraction, there are many. Try the night markets near the port, great selection as well, good prices and there are lots of food stalls as well. Enjoy

I want to know then name of wholesale market dealing in electronic items like laptops and mobiles and mobile accesories , please let me know the name of market and name of the area and if anyone can suggest a nice hotel around it , thanks in advance !!

i don't think there are any names at the Central Market there are just a bunch of booths. i purchased a JBL Charge 3 there. it works great except it will not connect to my Charge 3 I bought in the US. it is obviously a knock off. couldn't go wrong for $25 though.
any hotel downtown is like $2 or $3 tuk tuk ride so I would not be concerned about proximity. I stayed at the Grand Queen Boutique Hotel and loved it

hi anyone can suggest if we want to go to Cambodia for 3 nights, should we go direct to Siem Reap or go to Phnom Penh first since there is direct flight to Siem Reap
Written 22 October 2016
Hi If I were going to Cambodia for three nights I would definately spend all my time in Siem reap. The attractions of the temples and countryside are so good that it is easy to spend time exploring near by. Try to get to a floating village as well In the archeological park see at least the bayon, Angkor wat and Ta prom. While Phnom Penh is interesting it lacks the level of attractions of Siem reap
