I would suggest visiting in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat. There’s a small entry fee for climbing to the top of the monument, but it’s not too steep—worth it if you’re looking for a nice view of the city. Bring some cash for the vendors selling cold drinks and snacks around the park (they’re quite handy after the climb!).

A beautiful monument in memory of independence. Located in the center of the beautiful avenue, along which there are rich lampposts in the shape of flower buds. In front of the arch and the Parliament Building, a beautiful fountain that is colored in the evening with water features to the rhythm of music.

This important monument tells the story of independence from the French rule in 1953 and patuxay means victory gate. There are pictorial depictions of how the building was constructed and the story behind this monument on different floors as you go up. It has 7 floors; each floor is different and on the last floor, you get such a nice view of Vientiane.

The Patuxay Victory monument was erected at the end of the Laotian Secret / Civil War, using materials seized from the US Army that was intended for an airport. As the name suggests, the monument symbolises the victory over the Laotian Kingdom and cements the Lao PDR as the government of Laos. The monument is an iconic sight of the city and serves as an important symbol of how history turned out, similar to what happened in Vietnam.

We visited this place as part of our Vientiane city tour, which included the cost of the ticket to climb to the top. Yes, you can pay money to ascend the monument. It's an okay climb to the top, which gives you a scenic of Vientiane. There are also 2 exhibitions in the midst of the climb where you can learn more about Patuxay's story. Highly recommend taking the hike up.

The Patuxay fountain is also beside it, and will play fountain shows with music at different intervals of the day.

Patuxai is conveniently located in the center of the city, making it easy to visit. The area surrounding this iconic monument is beautifully developed, adding to its grandeur and significance. The intricate carvings and detailed architecture are a true reflection of Lao culture, making it a fascinating site to explore.

Best of all, admission is free, allowing visitors to take in the impressive sights without any cost. The addition of a fountain show further enhances the experience, adding a touch of liveliness to the atmosphere.

Pretty good popular place in Vientiane. If you want to go up of the monument it's in day time. Prices: 5000 KIP for Laos people, and 30 000 KIP for the foreigners. In the evening there is musical fountain, music, lights, and many tourists. On the places there is 2 fountains, toilets, café, local food sellers, World peace gong. Some places to seat. Public bus stops. Local photographers.

The Patuxai is a beautiful majestic monument at the heart of the city. I would recommend going in to see the views of the city from the top. Also I truly appreciated that the exhibits inside the Patuxai touched on history as well as tourist places. I managed to take pics of it and added it onto my adventure list. All in all, the Patuxai itself is mesmerising. The textile, design is beautiful!

Patuxay, the triumphal arch, also called the “Old Monument” erected in memory of the Laotians who died in the wars before the revolution, a conflict fought in the Asian country between 1953 and 1975.

In front of the arch, stands a large scenic fountain, which, Pao tells us, will be used in the next two days to celebrate the New Year’s Eve celebrations 2024 / 2025.

All around, there is a sequence of Laotian flags interspersed with red flags with a hammer and sickle.

We climb with determination to its top, 295 steps of sweat, trying to embrace the entire city of Vientiane. From above, the view is amazing.

The rooftops of the temples, the bustling streets and the Mekong River come together in a single panorama that captivates us.

Our view sweeps right on the meandering bend of the Mekong and the almost bucolic atmosphere, instills in the soul a state of absolute well-being.

The Mekong River, a source of fertility, is the main river of Laos and the entire Indochinese peninsula.

Patuxay Monument is a must-see landmark in Vientiane, Laos. Its impressive architecture and historical significance make it a standout attraction. The panoramic views from the top are stunning, offering a unique perspective of the city. While the monument could benefit from better maintenance, the surrounding gardens and fountains create a pleasant atmosphere for a leisurely visit. Overall, it's a great spot for both history enthusiasts and those looking for a scenic experiences

It is set in a wide area and there are a lot of stairs if you want to go to the top for a small fee. The views from the top are worth the effort. I like the history boards inside as I had only the brief history, so that was really helpful. Looks like they are planning more displays on the upper floors which would be a nice touch. It wasn't busy when we visited and the fountain was going. Night time would be a fantastic time to visit as it is all lit up. Definitely worth the visit. The ceiling inside the arch is really beautiful and hard to get a good photo of.
