Beautiful gold stupa with fascinating history. Visited during the late afternoon but also went past later when the stupa was lit up at night when it was even more impressive

While we felt impressed, we also thought that there were other similar stupas/temples in Laos that we had already visited that were more interesting and atmospheric (see our other reviews). This was big and clearly of significance but somehow lacked the 'feeling' we got from...More

This is a must to do in Vientiane. Our tuk tuk driver took us around all the significant wats including the Great Sacred Stupa. It was well kept and great to see.

The side and rear part of the stupa is under repair. It is a religious pilgrimage site for Laotians and many Thais who visit from across the river. The surrounding colorful temples are a syncretism of Hinduism and Buddhism. One has a large image of...More

Walked 5kms to reach this place. It is said that the stupa has a piece of Buddha's breastbone. Paid 10k, walked around a square did not see anything but construction. Yes, the inside of the stupa is off limits.
