- PaghostConegliano, Italy204 contributionsMongolian feeling. It takes a while to arrive, even if it is just 90 km from the city. The last 13 km are in the middle of nowhere, "following the electric line", but arriving on site prizes the daring driver with a breathtaking view. After an off-road drive through vast lands, between herds of cows, sheep, horses, a couple of tourist resorts that design wise do not fit with the natural environment, soft hills hide the final destination, that makes its appearance all of a sudden. At the Hulstai Park resort, a few brick buildings and different types of Gers for tourist information and accommodation as well. "Canteen" food, but very decent. Very kind manager, helpful and proactive. Nice museum that explains the reintroduction of the Mongolian breed of Przewalski's horse.Visited May 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 18 June 2023
- The Weak Knee TravelerSingapore, Singapore11,769 contributionsThe Place to see Przewalski's HorsesThis place is approx. 2 to 3 hours' drive from Ulaanbaatar city and is where the wild horses of Mongolia are. You can also see antelopes on top of the hill. Best to have a zoom camera or binoculars as they may be a bit far away. You can spend as much time as you want here if you want to wait for the wild horses to come down from the hill to the stream for water. If you are lucky, they could be already by the stream when you arrive and hence you don't have to wait that long.Visited June 2019Written 30 May 2020

The park’s stunning natural beauty and the impressive display of wildlife, particularly the Przewalski’s horses, made the trip a phenomenal adventure. A highlight of Hustai National Park is undoubtedly the opportunity to see Przewalski’s horses in their natural habitat. This endangered species of wild horse, preserved and protected in the park, is a sight to behold. Observing these majestic animals roam freely in the wilderness was a humbling and awe-inspiring experience. Beyond the captivating wildlife, the natural landscape of the park itself is breathtakingly beautiful. The rolling hills, dotted with various flora, offer a serene and tranquil environment that makes you feel at one with nature. Hustai National Park also scores high in terms of visitor amenities. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, keen to share their insights about the park’s wildlife and ecosystem. The park’s commitment to maintaining a balance between tourism and conservation is commendable. In conclusion, a visit to Hustai National Park is a must for any nature or wildlife enthusiast. The chance to witness Przewalski’s horses in the wild is a rare and valuable experience. Combined with the overall beauty and serenity of the park, it’s an excursion that leaves a lasting impression and is well worth a full five-star rating.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 July 2023

Beautiful nature, with horses, goats, sheep and cows grazing freely in endless fields of short grass.
Magical silence.
You’ll see also the circular gher for the rare nomadic people who live from sheep farming

Even thought the get did not have an attached toilet, overall, our stay here was nice. The place was well managed and it was well located being in a national park. They brought in a musician and locals to demonstrate local customs and food and it was great. The food for dinner and breakfast were really good. The place seemed to be well managed. And, you will meet some of the most interesting travelers here due to the wild horses nearby.

This is a day trip from UB but there is Ger accommodation if you want to stay overnight. This can be a bit 'hit and miss' as you are not guaranteed to see anything. There is a small display and video set up in one of the Gers at the entrance. You certainly won't see wild Przewalski horses frolicking by the road-side or amongst your camp. The best we saw was two mares off in the distance through binoculars. The lunch provided was good and that's it before the long scenic trip back to UB.

Living in the land of Wild-life Safaris in Kenya / Tanzania, for me it was an amazing experience to see horses in the Wilderness. The drive to the park is scenic and the park itself looks beautiful with green meadows, steppes and mountains.
We spent considerable time trying to understand the behavioral pattern of the horses. It was interesting to see how group of young male horses courted with female groups.
Initially, we could spot them using binoculars and telescopes, but later as evening approached we were fortunate to see them from very closed range, almost about 50 to 100 meters away.

The horses did not wander too close to the park roads, but a park ranger had a telescope set up on the road so that we could see that horses grazing at the top of hill. Later we were lucky to see a small group of horses as they came over the top of a hill near the road where we were stopped. When they saw us they veered off in another direction.

We went to the Hustai National Park to see the wild horses, takhis and we were lucky to spot many herds during our ride. Before the ride I learned that the management of the park is the responsibility of an NGO. The arrangement is very effective. The park is in good hands.

Spending time in the steppes and mountains observing the Takhi as an eco volunteer for the Hustai Park researchers was a peaceful and beautiful experience. Living in a ger for 10 days was a great way to start and end my days.
The staff takes very good care of visitors as well as the park and its animals.

If you make it to Ulaanbaatar, then you must take a trip to Hustei. Our party stayed in gers and the food was included. We got to explore the beautiful park and got to see the only wild horse left in the world. The whole trip was also very economical and staff was helpful.

We are two backpackers staying in Kharakorin for now. We are very exciting to rich your beautiful parc but we didnt found any good information for now. We are looking for public transportation from Kharakorin to Hustai park, can you help us in any way ? Is it possible to get a ride inside the park with a guide or Do we need to organise everything before coming ?

Bonjour,
I think you should organize everything before going to Hustai Park. I would recommend a collective shuttle that you can book in Kharakorin.
We travelled in a private SUV with a private driver and a private guide. So my information about collective transportation from Kharakorin to Hustai is very limited.
Inside the park, there are two main trails : a shorter trail (36km) and a longer trail (about 80 km)
We stayed in a very nice gher camp : the Moilt camp, that I would recommend.`
You can phone the Hustai Tourist Resort : 21-245087
Enjoy your trip !

I have a hard time finding this park on maps of Mongolia, including the "Location" map linked with Trip Advisor. Can you tell me what other spellings for the park name I should be looking for, please.

Hello, Goodluck for your trip and enjoy it. You can go by your car and there will be guide who can show you the takhi(wild horse). The price is not expensive but should bring a cash. Because there is no ATM.

I'd like to know if there is a way to see Hustai in one day?

Agree with other answers, you can see the park in one day and clearly, it is hit or miss with horses and wildlife. I would worry about getting a late start back to UB. I don't consider the roads safe during the day and at night, impossible. Have a nice meal and stay in a Ger and travel back early the next morning after breakfast. I would check and see what is open if out of season but local guides and tour companies could help.
