Big square in the centre of Ulaanbaatar, has the national parliament and a big Chinggis Khan statute overlooking everything. Always plenty of activity happening in and around the large square, and its a great meeting point in the city.

It’s changed names a couple of times. Sukhbaatar square to Cheggis Khan and back to Sukhbaatar. Historical and tied to independence.
Used for rallies, protests, festivals.
Food trucks and those heinous digital signs surrounding.

Huge square in the middle of Ulaanbaatar, surrounded by modern buildings and a museum, used for festivals. Was previously called Sukhbaatar Square after Damdin Sukhbaatar, a Mongolian revolutionary hero but renamed Chinggis Square in 2013. There's a large colonnade monument dedicated to Genghis Khan, as well as to Ögedei Khan and Kublai Khan, dominating the square's north face. I arrived during Mongolian New Year so everywhere was closed sadly.

I have been to UB 4 times and do not consider my visits complete before I have walked on this vast central square. Always lively and animated with tourists, political demonstrations, small stalls selling Mongolian food and crafts, Dance and sports events or dinosaur exhibitions just to mention a few.

This is something not to be missed if you are in the city centre. Not the most attractive I've seen but its good to just stroll around the square if 1 has the time. There could be activities held here at times.

Useful central point for meeting etc. Nice square with a variety of interesting statues. Would say don’t go out of your way to visit it, but it is basically the centre of Ulaanbaatar, so your hotel will probably be close to it anyway.

The square is huge and surrounded by older Soviet style buildings, modern glass skyscrapers and some statues. In winter there were ice sculptures and an ice rink. On a clear day you can see the mountains the background - very atmospheric.

A square with interesting architecture around it in any event, we visited in the late afternoon and had a great time photographing the ice sculptures in the square.

Wonderful place to wander around amongst the ice monuments and local attractions. Located in the heart of the city and close to our hotel (Shangri La) along with many of the local restaurants and bars.

In the center of Ulan Batar isthe statue of Chinggis Kahn overlooking the square. Due to the coronavirus and cold, this square was empty. But it had a dozen ice sculptures and an ice rink that was framed in ice. Last time we saw the square, it was Autumn and the square was filled with tourists, hawkers and performing acts.
