It's well worth a visit. Whether as part of a visit in it's own right, or as part of a longer hike, it adds reall interest and context for those hoping to understand a little about Mongolia's past.

The surroundings make for a nice photo opportunity as well as a exploration. As such, the monastery is very basic with no special attractions.

I found the views looking out from the monastery better than the monastery itself. On a clear day with the pines, the rocks and the hills it makes a stunning photo. Tickets were a bargain 1000T which included entry to the temple and a small...More

Taking an organized tour of the monastery area from Ulan Bator is a very expensive option at around $125. However, if you feel brave and intrepid, it is possible to visit the monastery by public bus and on foot, but it's quite a trek. Ultimately,...More

We drove there from UB in less than an hour. The last bridge looks fragile, but we saw a big bus use it safely. Contrary to some reviewers, we found lush vegetation and wildflowers. We love the hike above the monastery ruins, the huge granite...More

We visited this place 29 years ago and it was lush green with lots of water streams. This time it was real disappointment as the place was dry and hardly any water and limited vegetation.Needs conservation efforts.

The drive to the monastery alone is worth the trip because as you travel the 46k you find yourself surrounded by natural beauty and out of view of the city and civilization. The view from the rebuilt monastery is fantastic, and one could just imagine...More

After you spend hours and maybe days driving around a tree-less flat landscape, it was wonderful to climb up to the monastery and look down at a tree filled valley with snow capped hills in the distance. The structure itself is interesting while quite simple....More
