Great introduction to the history of Mongolia. The top two floors are particularly interesting with a beautiful array of national costumes. The only drawback would be the lack of English information. An english speaking guide through this museum would have been great.
Well worth a visit.

The National History Museum show cases the history of Mongolia from the earliest pre historic times right upto the modern fight for independence and democracy.
All well laid out on a few floors and very interesting. As it was a Tuesday again I had most of the museum to myself, as like the other smaller galleries and museums in the city.
Not as snazzy as the new Chinggis Khan Museum, but has its own charm nevertheless. I certainly enjoyed my time here and learnt a lot, particularly the time Mongolia had a man in space, and also the struggles for democracy in the late 1990s and after.
Recommended, especially for a view on the recent makeup of the country.

The museum was quite interesting. The exhibits were well done and provided a history of the country. We did lose interest when they got to the Communist period.

A great museum that covers the very long history of the country. The displays include English descriptions. Several rooms that display the lives and some political history.

20,000 ticket plus another 20,000 if you wanna take photos…kinda honor system.
Really good from early early days to modern and today.
I particularly enjoyed the modern stuff as Mongolia evolved its politics, social and economic stands

This is a great place packed with knowledge. There is information from "a" to "z", anything you could possibly want to know about Mongolia, its culture, history, heritage. It is very well organized, has lots of lots of exhibitions and displays. Traditional clothing, ger culture, hisotry of Mongolia through all the ages, the way to democracy, musical intruments, every day accessories and many many more. Definitely recommend to pay it a visit!

The museum has quite a few well-organized exhibitions - from ancient times until present day, including the Soviet decades and the transition to Democracie at the end of the 20th Century. For a very low price of entrance fee, you get to spend a few hours to see all the halls. There are also temporary exhibitions, as well as a nice small book shop at the entrance, if you are interested in history or archeology litterature. It is inspiring to see how Mongolians cherish and appreciate their past and where they have come from. There were many Original and copy exponats, maps on the walls, an entire hall of traditional clothing of the ethnicities of the different regions of the Country, and even video projection from the 70s or 80s time of how Ulaanbaatar looked like.

One of the best places you must visit. The findings are fantastic. All the information is in both English and Mongolian; a handy translator device was available to use.

How much for an adult ticket and a person above aged 12?

I went last year, I still have ticket and the brochure:
Adult 5,000 tug
Student 2,500 tug
Child 1,000 tug
Family 6000 tug
Couple 4000 tug
Audio guide tour English 3000 tug
Photography surcharge: 10,000 tug
They don't really speak English and I found out local Mongolians do not have to pay.
Good luck! Any further help in Ulaanbataar, let me know :D
