Used this train station to take a portion of the trans siberian to the russian border. Train station is average and has restrooms and some food vendors.

Be sure that your travel papers are in order and that your ticket is going to the correct destination. Take with you plenty of food, h2O and drinks. Note there are three classes of passage and you will need sleeping bunks for a long journey. Great views but no internet service!

From Mongolia, I traveled to China with the local train. The train station of Ulaanbaatar is so kind. There are only 2 lines so there is no need to worry about lost or loss

We started our Trans Siberian Railway journey from this station. Quite a modern station with everything you would expect and need. Clean enough with a large restaurant, some take away food places, little shops for souvenirs and a place for money exchange. The only complaint was that announcements made were very loud and certainly not clear - you could even see the locals straining to understand what was being said.

Not much to say about this station. Very busy when the Trans Mongolian Express get's in and out. Nice big hall and in general a clean and safe place. Besides that, not special.

The station isn't handy for the city centre, but being a spread out city, most areas will require a walk or a taxi. The inside of the station was organised chaos and very busy, but it was a fascinating example of life here.

Typical train station in this region. Keep an eye on your belongings as any traveler should. It's easy to navigate and you do not need to carry bags too far to get to the car park.

Not much to see but may famous people like the UK`s Joanna Lumley has made this trip, starting with Hong Kong.
The highlight must be the changing of the wheel gauges, plus the Russian enforcers who might say SPEAK Russian now.
Well worth the trip. take your own food supplies, H20 and bottles of vodka to drink ... and more importantly to share.

is there a money exchange at the station? did you find it reasonable or untrustworthy? Are the taxis safe enough for a single female? Thank you.

Yes there is a money exchange at the station. And yes the taxi's are safe for a single female. We found the Mongolian people among the friendliest people. If you need more assistance contact Discover Mongolia and ask for the service director her nickname is Oyungal. She is fantastic.
