We climbed Adam's Peak at night which is when most people do it. Ideally you see a nice sunrise, we didn't and it rained instead. Most of climbing Adam's Peak is the experience rather than anything else. At the top is a temple with Buddha's footprint in it - for Sri Lankan Buddhists this is really important and many climb... This can clearly be seen from Dalhousie, the small settlement where the walk begins. Sri Lankan Buddhist pilgrims walk up and sometimes down during the night but most foreign visitors start in the early hours of the morning, aiming to be at the top just before dawn. We set off at 1.30am and got to the top just after 5am.... More

It's really practical to stay in a guesthouse in Dalhousie, because then you don't need to do a one hour transfer in the middle of the night. You start at 2am from Dalhousie and hike for 3 hours (a lot of stairs). There are a lot of stalls on the way where you can take a break and have a... More

First of all a warning- this is an all night trek and it is pretty strenuous. It is all steps on the way and although I would consider myself to be reasonably fit but found that this walk was difficult in parts. You need to leave in the middle of the night to be at the top for sunrise and... More

The hike requires decent fitness to do in good time but if you don't have a time limit it's achievable by most. It is quite crowded at the peak for the sunrise so it might be worth going during the day if missing that doesn't perturb you. The views coming down once the sun had risen were absolutely spectacular

Don't underestimate this one & ignore the guide book claims of a 2-3 hr climb. That might be true if your young &/or super fit. We started the climb at 1:30am & didn't get to near the summit for sunrise until 6:30am. But there was still another hour of patience required because of a bottleneck of pilgrims & tourists near... We climbed on 26th December 2016 and as expected, the climb took around 3 hours when starting from around 2am, with very short breaks at the 8 or so tea stops along the way. The climb itself started out fairly reasonably, the middle section was more difficult but surprisingly evened out at the end with simpler, easier steps to climb.... More

We arrived at the base in the afternoon after our trip to World's end . Planned to do it in the night as suggested by reviews. But later we changed the plan as it was raining and we knew that we won't be able to see the sunrise . Though the weather was nice but the trek is so difficult,... More
