Perfect day out in Colombo. I would suggest to go early in the morning and try to finish the tour before mid day when it gets really hot. Lots of beautiful animals. Walk in cages for butterflies and exotic birds. Beautiful setup and good nice long walk to complete this tour. I took lots of pictures.

Big old zoo thats been terribly managed, with animals in really constrained sad condition. Elephants chained up and made to do performances, lots of stereotypic behaviour can be seen from most animals etc. Not at all comparable to zoos around the world.

I love the new changes at the Dehiwala Zoological Gardens. It gives the once caged animals freedom and space. Love going here.

This is the oldest and biggest zoo in Sri Lanka. It has a massive variety of animals all over the world. We could possibly see all the animals. But the place is too packed. Some animals need more space and bigger cages or even I prefer to see them in free area rather caged inside 4 walls. This place is... More

This is situated very close to Colombo. Very old zoo but now animals getting reduced day by day. Children love this place & very crowded in public holidays. Good elephant shows & must see that.

Absolutely massive zoo with all the animals you would expect... but we didn't get to see the tigers for some reason? Most of the animals look unhappy, lonely And upset as other travellers have mentioned... we thought this was just a joke until we actually saw it to be the case! (Especially the elephants...) The gift shop was a poor... More

We had high hopes despite reading all the horrible reviews. But visiting the zoo made us realise how truthful all the previous reviews really were. I went a ignorant tourist and came back feeling depressed. The elephants were the worst and the brown bear, it really hit me when my 3 year old pointed out to me that 'mummy the... More

We took some school children to the zoo today. Sri Lanka is a country which is home to some of the world's most beautiful creatures. This zoo is the most cruel zoo I have experienced though I have not experienced that many. The tragedy of the Brown Bear will haunt me forever as well as 3 hippopotomi in a tiny... More
