The most striking thing thing is the cleanliness. Not a piece of paper or plastic on the streets. The houses are amazing from inside so try to peek through a partially open gate - the outside is just blank walls.

Old Tashkent is almost ignored now as tourists are rushed to the new, modern and beautiful city. Samarkand has been completely revitalised and is much more attractive to tourists.

The old town starts at the Chorsu Bazaar and Metro Station. The bazaar itself is worth seeing and the neighborhood around is interesting.

Old Tashkent is a charming venue to observe the daily lives of its residents up close, especially around the central bazaar Chorsu. Many old, significant, and symbolic buildings have also been restored.

This open air market is pretty interesting in that you can see all the different food sellers side-by-side. Fruits are separate from vegetables, nuts and spices are upstairs and are very different from those at home, which would be imported from here. Meats are sold...More
