On the advice from someone on the Istanbul forums we booked ahead online to go to this hamam and I'm so glad we did. From start to finish everything was easy from the booking online before we'd even travelled out to Turkey to the end where they had brushes, combs and hairdryers to dry your hair with. I do though... Unsure about the whole Hamam experience, we opted to try the Suleymaniye Hamam as it is the only one that offers appointments for mixed couples - all others are single sex at different times. we were made very welcome and given a comprehensive briefing plus towels and slippers prior to going into the heat room. We were fully relaxed by... More

So the actual experience of the Hamam is amazing, if you haven't had one before then definitely do it if you have then this one wont disappoint. The building is incredible and the Hamam itself is all original and very impressive. My girlfriend and I left feeling very clean and rejuvenated.

During our visit in March 2016 we visited the bath as it was recommended and organized by our hotel and we are glad we did. We did not know exactly what to expect but had a fabulous time. The staff were very friendly and went through the procedure when we first arrived. They told our taxi driver where he could... More

It is not very common to visit Turkish bath as a couple. Usually it is only for men or women, but not mixed. This one is for couples and only for couples, so if you are single, you should look for another one. And it is also for families, so you can go with children. They will lend you some... More

To the best of my knowledge, this is the only Turkish bath that allows couples. It is the only bath I visited, so my opinion is based on limited experience. It is a beautiful, historic Hamam which added to our experience. We had been warned that some of the old hamam's were in disrepair but Suleymaniye was in good shape.... More

We were recommended this hammam by our hotel concierge as they did couples hammam. Most hammams in Istanbul have set times for men and women. We arrived and were given very clear instructions on how the hammam process worked. A locker is given and you wear the key on your wrist throughout the massage/scrubbing. The room is very hot where... More

My greatest concern was tipping. Coming from a non tipping culture, I was concerned about the long line of people expecting a tip at the end of the bath but not here. At the end of the bath, if you wish to put some money in the tip box, it is up to you. (I was happy to). I have... More

My boyfriend and I chose the Suleymaniye Hamam because they are mixed (i.e. we could go together). The building is magnificent, like the mosque beside it, and it so great to think that sultans came here to bath... The experience starts by an explanation of what to expect, then 20ish minutes in the hamam followed by a peeling and a... More

Staying in Grand Bazaar

Neighbourhood Profile
Grand Bazaar
Tourists, hawkers, and locals come together at the Grand Bazaar to comb its labyrinthine passageways in search of a bargain – be it a pair of brand name jeans, a handcrafted silk rug, or a perfectly brewed cup of tea. Outside the vast bazaar, worn, narrow streets wind their way down from its lofty perch to the southern shore of the Golden Horn, where the evocatively aromatic Spice Bazaar beckons alongside the elegant New Mosque (opened in 1665). Nearby, the famed Galata Bridge offers pedestrian access to urban delights across the river in Istanbul’s more residential and contemporary neighbourhoods, while the must-see sights of Sultanahmet are but a leisurely stroll away.
