The ancient Hippodrome was the center of Byzantine civic life, from political and theological controversies to chariot races and riots. Built in 203 by Emperor Septimus Severus, it is estimated that the arena could accommodate up to 100,000 spectators.

this is an interesting area, if you spend the time to look around there is a lot going on, the obelisks are historical and interesting at one end, the German fountain at the other, and its a place to stroll and contemplate

… when walking around, they could have more kept attributes of the sporting and social area; nevertheless, it is nice to see especially the obelisk where you can low down to where the original ground for the Hippodrome was.

If you are visiting Hagia Sophia or Blue Mosque you cannot but stumble on this historic thoroughfare. It is now a long pedestrian zone without the chariots and taxis. The ancient obelisks are interesting and there is a well the water fountain. Pleasant place to...More

Free. Worth a walk around as some beautiful bits to see and do :) close to the basilica cystern, blue mosque, aya sofia, sultan atmed tomb

This attraction is a free for all, used to a be magnificent building built, but what’s left are just two obelisks and a serpentine column.

Part of the tourist scene in the Sultanahmet but worth the time to wander and explore its history. There was also a very good craft village running along its length with stalls with a difference.
