It's a basic square with stores and places to eat. Nothing fancy and frankly not really beautiful. It tries to be something like Times Square but fails, everything is too unorganized and dirty, following the norm I could witness in Istanbul. Also the majority of...More

It's basically a large square full of concrete, with the Republic monument commemorating the formation of the Turkish Republic in 1923, at it's centre and surrounded by buildings. Only worth going as it's the start/stop of the vintage tram which runs along İstiklal Caddesias. Unfortunately...More

Taksim is a square do not expect to be blown away. It however has significance. It therefore is a place that anyone who is interested in history and culture will visit. However off the square is the most amazing shopping experience.

The sculptures on the square explains an historical event. Taksim or divide means to distribute water in the past. Nowadays is a main square, in Istanbul. Take a pic- eat and drink- shopping- fun- country councils

Istanbul’s most famous street, pedestrianized Istiklal
Caddesi (Independence Avenue), throbs day and night
and offers a fantastic array of architectural sights,
shops, treats, and throngs upon teeming throngs of
people. At the avenue’s northeastern end is expansive
Taksim Square, thought by many to be the very heart of
the city, with many of Turkey’s most renowned
restaurants and some of Europe’s most happening
