The Carmelit we were told suffered a major fire early 2017 and has since been closed off for extensive renovations and newly designed carriages. Its a shame, it had a great charm. We were told they expect it to be reopened by 1/2019.

Driving in Haifa has become a nightmare and the best thing to do is bus in and take the Carmelit. Unfortunately there was a serious fire and I don't know if it is working now.
