Wadi Qelt is a scenic gorge running between Jerusalem and Jericho; as such, it is popular among hikers. The isolated Greek Orthodox monastery is carved into a cliff in the northeastern corner of the narrow canyon. The exterior is impressive; inside, the non-squeamish will marvel at the human reliquary.

A "must see" attraction for the christian, especially the orthodox, of the Holy Land. Following the road to Jericho you "dive" into the Judean desert hermitage of the early fathers of christianity.

Stopped at the top of the hill overlooking the monastery of St. George in Jericho, it looked awesome. Just did not pay a visit. The view from the top of the hill was good. Be careful of the hillside, many have fallen. Some peddlers here....More

This greek Onorhodox monastery built in the cliffs is an unbelievable sight and a wonder by itself. Our guide stated that there are only 4 monks and that they only speak for an hour every day.

Wadi Qilt is a place to visit on the way to Jericho. The terrain is amazing, and even thought this place is off the beaten path, it worth taking the road less travelled.

As our Holy Land Pilgrimage continued on August 4, 2017 from Jericho to Bethlehem, the tour group stopped in Wadi Kelt to view St. George's Monestary. Temperature at this time of year was 119 degrees F. A dry heat, but still hot. A place to...More

This monastery, without a doubt, is one of the finest pearls in the casket of Israeli's sights. Despite the widespread presence of signs of modern technology, the modesty, simplicity and form of buildings and interior decoration, the landscape and islands of vegetation evoke a sense...More

Beautiful place, nestled in the Valley of the Shadow (which David penned about in Psalm 23). This region only receives direct sunlight one hour per day. This area is the area of the Jericho Road Jesus wrote about in the parable of the Good Samaritan....More
