About
Located in the downtown district of Beirut, the Mosque of Emir Munzer Tannoukhi dates from 1620 AD. Although it was built in the Ottoman period, the architectural style is much more traditional Lebanese than Ottoman or even Mamluke. Only the octagonal minaret with muqarnas (stalactite) decorations exhibits a clear Mamluke style. The mosque has a courtyard surrounded by a lofty portico of pointed arches resting on eight grey granite columns, taken from pre-existing Roman structures. In a post-civil war restoration, the mosque's courtyard was covered to shield worshippers from inclement weather.

Not very impressive, yet charming, this historical mosque is authentic and interesting. Its glass roof and central fountain add to its uniqueness.

This is a smaller mosque but is still impressive in that to the outsider it is respectfully maintained to the original style with a beautiful interior. They welcome non Muslims visiting but remember it is a place of worship and some rules apply in relation to dress and respect.

I would like to thank the people who renovated this mosque as they kept its original look and status perfectly.
The inner decorations of the mosque are impressive.
It is very clean, very neat, historical but appears new.
It is just in front of Beirut Souk. Just cross the Weegan street at its corss with Riad El-Solh main street.
