I can not begin to explain the beauty of this mosque. The way they welcome all religions to see the architecture was great. A must do.

Wonderful place a must see. Sun afternoon it took 1 hr to get thru visitor's center to entrance. I highly recommend taking the free cultural tour just about every hour on the hour meeting point just inside Maine entrance arch to the right. You get to go into the make prayer room, public tour only looks in the tour provided many insights and close up look out guide on 19 Mar Khalid did a wonderful job. Tour is in English only.

What an architectural wonder. This is a must-do for Abu Dhabi. Our very knowledgeable tour guide Saif made it even better.
Please make sure if you are a woman, you need to be covered from head to foot. Your face can show but head, arms and rest of body must be covered. We were not with a group and hence were not aware that you could rent clothes. The information point and the lady security personnel were blunt and unhelpful. We were made to buy a scarf at an exorbitant price which we probably will not use again in our life.

We were on a tour in the Mosque with Nuur. She was our guide for the 5.00pm tour. She was amazing. She gave us lots of information, had a clear and calm voice (good english) and was just top! Thank you Nuur! And the place is magical!

This is a must see when in Abu Dhabi. The serenity, the architecture, the sheer magnificence of it.
It is free to visit, and the staff are very helpful. Whilst free to visit, you do need to register to visit, though this can be done on the day there. Do remember to dress appropriately as it is a place of worship. For ladies full arm / leg / head coverings, and for gents legs must be covered (no shorts) and a polo shirt was fine on the day. The website does provide a clear view of what is OK and what is not.
You then have a walk from the "reception" area through to the mosque, however they have travellators and for those that need it, golf buggy's ferrying people up and down the long underground corridor. This is air conditioned, so won't be walking in the open in direct sunlight.
One there, they run free tours in English on the hour (i.e. 10am, 11am etc). We were shown around by Mozza - who was FANTASTIC. Very clear English, she was fluent, personable and knowledgeable. The tour only took 35-40mins, so I do recommend if you want to know more about the moqsue. After that you are free to walk around yourself if you want, but you cover it all in the tour. Total time needed there is 1-1.5hr max.
Overall, a great place to visit, would recommend to go around mid morning and avoid lunchtime or just after because of the heat and the crowds.

Unbelievable experience .
This beautiful place has to be seen.
Marbles, chandeliers, columns. Art is the magnitude of that place.

How can we get a free tour in the Mosque?
Elene L
Tbilisi, Georgia26 contributions
you can take a free guided tour for better experience. Just ask at the reception. The tour lasts 40-60 minutes and includes a story about the Mosque and how it was built and decorated. you dont have to pegister.

Do they give special clothing (dress, scarf) at the entrance?

I did not see anything to suggest this. It is possible that some tour guides or companies MIGHT have provided for their clients. I wouldn't risk it. If you know the cultural / religious requirements, as a responsible traveler, you respect them. Pack a pair of socks for your sandals, a pair of long pants, a long sleeved shirt that doubles as a jacket and a scarf. It's not that hard.

We did not have to provide any proof of either vaccination or testing at the mosque.

I have a 3hr 40 min layover at the Abu Dhabi Airport, can I cover Sheikh Zayed Mosque during this time.
Considering the travel time from airport to Mosque is ~20min, I was hoping to check this beautiful location off the list in about 2.5 hours.
My layover is from 11:10 hrs to 14:50 hrs in the first week of Feb.

February There are many travelers in Abu Dhabi, so there will probably be a queue to enter the mosque and if it will be a pray time, then it will be impossible to get in this time.

Is the entrance via the mall only? Also are masks still required at the mosque? Also anyone recommend the best day/time of day to visit in mid Feb (to avoid the rush) Thank you

Yes still via the mall, no need for masks. Don’t think Feb is as busy as Dec but early morning as it opens is always the best for crowds but sunset is best for views.
