First I had to persuade the locals in La Paz that this place actually existed. They all denied this. But after days of probing, I found someone to drive me + partner up. Once we got to the top, for less than $10 I rented...More

This was by far the worst excursion I took in South America. We were picked up in a tourist bus and spent the next hour picking other people up from hotels in La Paz. As we pulled off the paved road at the edge of...More

It is nice to go there and feel the altitude. The car takes you almost at the top so you dont have to have any special equipment. The way to the top takes you about 1 hour and you can take some nice pictures with...More

It is a nice place to visit especially if you are planning to do some climbing around La Paz, as its elevation is 5,421 meters. The glacier on Chacaltaya served as Bolivia's only ski resort. It was the world's highest lift-served ski area. Unfortunately, due...More

We booked the tour for 80Bs (not including 15Bs for Chacaltaya and 15Bs for the moon valley) ended up in a mini-van with 12 tourists. There was only one van at the top so I think it doesn't matter with which agency you book (though...More

If you're not a mountain climber (you're not going to take on Huayna Potosi), Chacaltaya is a sweet option to see what it's like to hike at almost 18,000ft. The views are lovely. The day we went up, some chollitas had climbed to the summit...More

We booked this day trip through the travel agent at our hotel and thought it was great. The tour left from the Plaza Isabela Catolica and was well organized all the way through. The high altitude was a hard adjustment so we didn´t walk much....More

I visited Chacaltaya mountain as part of a day trip booked through Kanoo Tours (which also included a visit to Moon Valley for just $15 USD). It’s located about an hour outside of La Paz city centre & involved a rather bumpy (& at times,...More
