.... more the quarter of Cayenne in which one will find the most Chinese people. And their many cheap shops selling a plethora of cheap stuff ... inexpensively. There are possibly some good restaurants, although I didn't find one, other than the fabulous soups available in the central market which happens to be here.

Most people advised me against visiting the village Chinois on security grounds, and especially not at night. I decided to have a quick look anyway. The whole area feels very unsafe and there are plenty of dodgy people around. Nothing of any particular interest.

Went over the canal to go into china town and its GONE. Just concrete buildings Chinese seem to have gone and replaced by West indians The whole of Cayenne is now full of them, never seen Cayenne so busy and busseling with loads of people and cars Been up Place de palmistes at day break sunset many times and there... More

the taxi collectifs will drop you off near this chinatown but there is nothing to see or do there. just tiny grocery stores and cheap clothes and household goods. it has a menacing, unpleasant feel to the place.

I went expecting it to be rubbish and still left disappointed! If you are expecting something like Canal Street in Manhattan or Gerrard Street in London you may be somewhat disappointed. From what I saw this is just the area of Cayenne where there are lots of Chinese people (still couldn't see a Chinese homeless). Thats it. Dont bother, this... More
