Really Cool History
Feb 2021 • Solo
My guide took me there for an hour, and debriefed me on the history of Asunción. There were so many artifacts there, as well as a ton of Paraguay historical significance.

HISTORY AT ITS BEST
Oct 2019
The importance of the structure to Paraguayan independence has assured the survival of this colonial building over the centuries. On May 14, 1811, the independence of the country was declared here before men went to the Spanish governor to force a power sharing arrangement. Paraguay is the only South American nation that was a Spanish colony that did not have to fight for its independence. The house was made into a museum in 1965. Many important period artifacts are found there. Beside the house is the alley the men took to see the governor.

Typical Period House
Sep 2019
Very well restored house where Paraguayan independence was born. There are several period rooms which are interesting. There could be more English descriptions but the house almost speaks for itself

Good Historical Museum
Jan 2019
Casa de la Independencia is the only historical museum in Asuncion. A little small but well maintained and it´s a historical building. The visit will take you less than half an hour but it´s worth it.

This home was used to help plot the independence from Spain. It is a pleasant walk through with historical furnishings and a nice courtyard.

a monument to Paraguay's history
Nov 2017 • Solo
In Asuncion's historical center with all the important buildings nearby is this small colonial house, now preserved as a museum, where in 1811 the conspirator's used to gather, who then went to declare Paraguay's independence from Spain.

Besides important documents and portraits regarding this event, the house also shows how one lived in those days - with period furniture and decorative details. To be seen is an Escritorio (Office room), a Dining Room, a Living Room (Sala de Lujo), a Dormitorio (bedroom), but also an Oratory and a replica of the Capitulary Saloon of the old Cabildo. Information boards are only in Spanish.

There is a pleasant little courtyard with several plants and benches to relax and there are good, clean toilets available. Entrance and photography is free.

historical interest
Sep 2017
If you like to visit historical sites I recommend to go to this house, It is one of the kind in Asuncion, it is actually the only remaining building from the XVIII th Century. The art collection is interesting, there are furniture, paintings religious objects used in the misions. Located downtown near other attractions.

Not bad for a capital with little to see
May 2017
Asuncion is pretty down at the heels, and little of significance is offered. This spot where the early ruling family resided is worth about thirty minutes, but, with the secured entrance, it is a nice escape from the street folks on the sidewalks.

Quiet stroll downtown in history
Feb 2018 • Business
Small, historical, free. It's where Paraguay declared their independence from Spain in 1812 (i think).
