The facility was well laid out. Some English but some exhibits without. Took about an hour and half to go thru. Two floors. If you have some history about Island before you go it helps.

From the outside, the aging white paint looked dirty so we weren't expecting much. The first surprise is the inexpensive entry fee. The second was the very well kept and curated displays of artefacts old and new. Each had its theme and story clearly and...More

Informative displays, well presented. No English language guides available. Of interest to people who want to learn about different Melanesian customs in various islands a well as the kanaks in New Caledonia.

This museum shows aspects of tribal life among the Polynesians in New Caledonia and beyond (Vanuatu, PNG etc.). We enjoyed seeing the reproduction houses and traditional dress items and learned about the local history and traditional culture.

We never got in, as the lady in the counter was so rude we left. It was a shame as we're looking forward to learning more about the culture of New Caledonia. Hope you don't get her when you go in.

This Museum is one of only two places to see the local culture. The faded exterior is typical of the run down look of the museum. The interior has some fine examples of wood carving, a traditional canoe, and a native hut outside. It has...More

This museum, not extremely large, has the most complete compilation of artifacts for the New Caledonian and surrounding Island groups outside France. It is quite complete in covering all facets of the lifestyle and culture of the people. The life-size exhibits are exceptional, the informational...More

The different traditional sailboats were the highlights of the museum. The Hop-On Hop-Off bus...More
