The museum building would need a freshening up, but the collections are superb, both for their aesthetic quality and for the insight they give on Melanesian culture. Noumea must-see.

Fernando's Tours brought us to this museum, we had 45 minutes , we could esily spend hours as the Museum covered all the surrounding islands, ceremonial head dress of the locals according to the occasion, the spears, fishing vessels, the history of the islands and how they were discovered, "la grande Case" ((traditional hut showing how they were built) fascinating history!... If you like culture then you must go here. This has 2 floors of native artifacts such as canoes, huts and details of wood carving used for housing. Very clean and in English. Get a seniors discount over 60 yr old!

Great museum of indigineous culture of New Caledonia & surrounding Pacific islands There are wonderful traditional artifacts .. There is a small entry charge - you need SPFrancs. There is just about enough English signage to help you understand what you are looking at. Covers 2 floors

It is a very small museum but has some fascinating things from the Kanak culture in it.The staff were wonderfully friendly. While we were there, an exhibition linking past with present art. Lots of wonderful things to see. Like everywhere else on the islane you need local currency

Not the best museum I've been to, but interesting anyway for a first-time visitor to Noumea. Worth a look, but credit cards not accepted to pay for admission, and no Aussie dollars....only local currency - the pacific franc.

Thank Greg A
