Put your religious beliefs to one side and immerse yourself in the splendour of this amazing spectacle. The main prayer room is huge and lit by an enormous chandelier, that has hundreds of lights. The ceilings a bedecked with painting and engravings depicting Allah, Mohammed and the profess of Islam, and are truly beautiful. Make time to see this captivating... More

When i get the chance i go to the Citadel. It is a collective of museums and complexes from different historical periods. The citadel itself and the mosque are really beautiful and i enjoy being there. In my point of view it is the greater pyramid of the Islamic civilization in Cairo. Not sure as well if all the museums... More

The Citadel is a historic place and is currently the largest mosque in Cairo. It is a welcoming place for visitors and you will likely see lots of kids, and adults who are overtly friendly. The place is old, has beautiful views, and in Cairo is a top ten. The architecture is beautiful, along with history and vistas is spectacular.... More

You only need about 30 mins to visit the Citadel. the palace is closed, so the only thing here is the mosque. No need to cover your hair if you are a woman, people here are very nice and welcome everyone. Take your shoes off at the entrance. Spectacular view of the city from here. Better to visit around noon... More

One of the disappointments in our trip to Cairo was our excursion to The Citadel. It's locate in the S part of Cairo, on top of a hill. While the view of the city is quite good from there, the property and mosque there is run-down and dirty. Floors quit dirty, many of the hanging lights were not working, and... More

Built in the 12th century to protect against the crusaders with the 19th century mosque built by Muhammad Ali, the father of modern Egypt (not the boxer). Be ready to take off your shoes in the mosque or buy shoe covers.

Beautiful! It is the place to go to see Islamic architecture! You can spend most of a day there, just visiting the museums and mosques. The Mohammed Ali Alabaster mosque is outstanding! It's a must on your visit to Cairo!
