The citadel complex is situated just off Salah Salem Rd and offers amazing views over Cairo and the surrounding area, which are almost worth the entry fee by themselves. The price of entry has risen to 60 LE for foreigners and 5LE for Egyptians although there is a discount for holders of an ISIC card. There is a lot to... More

This Citadel is often referred to as Mohamed Ali Citadel because here you can find the Ottoman architecture style Mosque of Mohamed Ali, built in memory of Mohamed Ali's second son who died in 1816. In this Citadel you can find 4 museums and 2 other mosques. At the back side of Mohamed Ali's Mosque you can see the antique... More

The Mosque is very impressive in size. As tourists, we were asked to wear clothing that covered our arms and legs. We were not required to wear anything on our heads. The ceilings in the Mosque were the most interesting part of this attraction.

Just okay in terms of the mosque. The ceiling is impressive but the rest isn't. The city views are dynamic, as is the structure. Several attractions in one place; the Citadel Prison Museum is worth the walk through. The National Military Museum is also there (I didn't have the time or interest in visiting). More interesting is across the street... More

Awesome complex--be ready to walk a bit--but well worth it! Have a good guide to point out the finer points--I would have missed a lot without my knowledgeable guide Mohamed Seddik with Elegant Voyage tours

The Citadel is an impressive fortress overlooking the city. At one time it was a royal residence. It was used as barracks until the late 1800s. It was built in the 12th century but over time, it was enlarged.

The Citadel has a lot of history - it was the British headquarters for two world wars. But not much is open as it is being used now for government offices. But what is open is the mosque that Ali built and is his final resting place. It is beautiful and very pleasant to visit. But what grabs you is... More

5LE if you don't want to remove your shoes going inside. We were mobbed by the local girls so they could take photos with us. Very fun area, light hearted with easy going vendors.

The citadel lays at the top of the mount, where you can enjoy the view of Amman lights all around. I attended Yanni concert there,it was well organized and very joyful.
