Visiting Memphis for the Colossus of Ramses II and the Sphinx of Memphis should be combined with Sakkara-- not worth the trip JUST for Memphis. Even better do a full day tour combining with the Giza pyramids in a private car tour.

This enormous statue can be view in the open air museum at Memphis and is worth a visit. The acids in the mud damaged the back which can be seen on the underside.of the statue.Go up to the viewing gallery to see the real beauty of this statue, which lies in its flawless detail.

This large limestone statue of Ramses II, on its back, was quite amazing to see the details of the carving. You can see it up close on ground level or walk up to the second floor and get an elevated view.

Very large but ornate status of the most famous of Ancient Egyptian rulers. Can get close to and above the great status.

Although is not much above ground to see from ancient Memphis, it's still nice to visit what most have been one of the greatest Egyptian cities of its day. Then in a pavilion, there's this colossal statue of Ramses II so beautifully done, that even with some losses it keeps it's imposing appeal.

It was exciting to hear the history about Ramses II and how great of a pharaoh he was. Went to see his Colossus as part of a tour

The Colossus of Ramses II is by far the highlight and main attraction of Memphis. It is a huge and intricately carved statue of the great pharaoh, Ramses II that lies on its back, facing the sky and exuding the sky. The statue is in itself a masterpiece!

In my mind, it's Egypt's equivalent of the reclining Buddha at Wat Pho. You have to go see it to believe it!

If you are going to Memphis, it is worthwhile going to see the Colossus. But I wouldn't make a special trip out to see it. The size, age and sculpting is impressive. There is an outdoor museum area at the back with a few statues, but compared to what you can see elsewhere and at the Egyptian Museum, it all... More
