Private Day Tour to Abu Simbel Temples from Aswan

91 reviews
The Abu Simbel Temples, two majestic sandstone structures, stand reflected in the waters of Lake Nasser. It’s a long drive from Aswan, so enjoy the comfort of a private vehicle direct from your door. Learn about Ramses II, his wife Nefertari, the love goddess Hathor, and the flooding of the Nile from your private Egyptologist guide. Return to Aswan in the late afternoon.

This is the Island I think that has on it the botanical gardens, which is listed separately on TripAdvisor. It’s a great place and I highly recommend.

Nice for a walk.but nothing really special for a botanical garden. Not all threes are marked and feels like a mess inside.

"El Nabatat Island" or "Kitchener Island" is small, oval-shaped island in the Nile at Aswan. It is less than a kilometer long and its width is less than ½ a kilometer. The Aswan Botanical Garden is located on the island. The collection was begun by Lord Kitchener and cared for since. The gardens  are popular among the local people and tourists, as a place to go for a quiet afternoon away from the noise of the city, and for weekend picnics. The island and gardens can be reached by Felucca that reach the Southeastern side of the small island. From there you walk through the gardens (but of faded glory from the original nature and thought construction) past high palm trees which give shade. Kitchener rapidly transformed the small 750 metres (2,460 ft) long island into a paradise of exotic trees, many from India, and plants in gardens with view walkways. Facilities such as toilets are ok. Cafe situated near the market. Exit down the stairs to a falucca!

We took an 8 day cruise down the Nile and this was one of our stopping points. While the Felucca ride was fun, my wife and I were disappointed in this Botannical Garden. It had not been kept up very well and much of the infrastructure was in disrepair. Clearly money was being spent on the temples and artifacts so this was not high on the priority list. The idea of a garden for Kitchner was a good one, it has not been kept up to its original status.
