The hike in itself is really rewarding. It looks easy but definitely isn't. To start it is preferred to be in Early morning. One should bring lots of water, Snaks and some sunscreen. Must go around the Rim. We started early in the morning so we escaped the hot sun and we took around 5 hours to complete the hike... More

Climbing this vulcano is a nice thing to do with some great views. Keep in mind to bring enough water and some food. For the rest: enjoy the walk :)

Who charges $26 for an hike??? I found it to be very expensive. Not just that, they recommend going with a guide (Which I don't think is necessary if you are going in a group) and they charge an extra 3000 ksh for the guide which is ridiculous. But the hike in itself is really rewarding. It looks easy but... More

Mount Longonot is amazing. The view from the rim is incredible and worth the hike. The hike is no joke, though. I'm fairly in shape but not a seasoned hiker; as a result, this hike was at times very difficult. The initial uphill is brutal - we had to take a lot of pauses to catch our breath. Hiking around... This place is amazing! 5 stars! But I gave 1 because of the management. Kenya Wildlife Services is taking care of this places and charges any nonresident for $26. We came as a small group, rented a van. Nowhere else in the world I have paid to hike. But Ok, no problem. Problem started at the reception. We did not... More

Experienced hikers will tell you that It's a breeze if you up-to-date with your physical fitness. If not then let me explain. Hike is good if you start early before the sun starts to bite, 8 or 9am would be good. If you're not physically fit then a climb to the top is the best but I wouldn't go around... More

Very good challenge climbing up the mountain. However remember to get good hiking shoes otherwise you will be in for a beating, The soft gravel while walking round the crater can be a challenge if you have shoes without grip.

Very steep! Defiantly a workout. A little dangerous heading back down but the view is amazing and worth it!

Went up mid week in January 2017. 300 shillings for a citizen and about 2700 for a non resident. Route is well travelled and there are no navigation issues so a guide is not needed unless you are going solo and want company. There are a couple of steep sections on the way to the rim and on the walk... More

I have seen Mount Longonot from the highway ever since I moved to Nairobi in 2010 and always wondered if I would ever get the chance to climb it. Curiously, the day before I went (right before Christmas) the New York Times "36 Hours" column featured Nairobi and listed Mount Longonot as one of the top attractions to experience while... More
