Beautiful lake for boating, scenic views, and walking in the peaceful park area around the lake. At this time of year, the Gingko Balboa leaves are golden.

Recently we visited Yanqi Lake, a short drive North of Beijing. The Scenery was so beautiful that it can match many famous lakes in the world. The Round Building is Kapinski Hotel to accomodate delegates from APEC leaders. People can spend some holiday time there. The hotel price is comparable to any five star hotels in downtown Beijing. In the deep Autumn it is magnificent.

There are lots of activities for kids in the park. Very few visitors during the weekdays. Strongly recommending taking a night boat tour (after 8pm) to enjoy the beautiful night view of lighted mountains.

Nothing special, Certainly not worth fighting traffic for. It's a lake yes. Unremarkable surroundings, unremarkable lake, Maybe if you really need to get away from the city it's ok for a day trip but don't do it during any national holidays. Local planning was not done well so the roads will be jammed with traffic. Plus they may have been trying to be helpful by blocking cars from making the left turn into our Hotel's road but in the end it just made things worse because we had to go way out of our way, as did many others, to make a u-turn and then block up traffic going the other way as you need to take more space with a u-turn... So in the end it just made the situation worse.
National holidays in China are best spent at home. Yanqi Lake is not worth fighting the crowds for. I don't think I'll go back and I live less than an hour from the place.

The lake itself is nice but absolutely not planned for walking guest or bicycle. The road is narrow and you need to walk on it and take attention of the cars, luckily not many as they control the access. Difficult to make the complete tour, we gave up and return to the hotel after 30 minutes. The view is nice however from a boat. I do not recommend to go to the amusement park, they charge 40 yuans per person and not many attractions, which you need to pay again, finally since it's expensive no one goes on it. You must stop and go out of the boat at the back side of the island, it's the best place, beautiful and wild, you can take nice pictures.
Good restaurant at 15 minutes with grilled trout (35 yuans per 500 gr) excellent, and many fruits to buy around.
