A friend recommended a guide named "Storm Li" at the last minute before I flew from Austin, Texas to Beijing. I was just going to show up and wing it. But I'm so glad I found Storm! He is a very humble, peace-loving man who knows his history of China, its culture, its religious history, its political history, and of... More

As a couple of English-only speaking Gen X'ers from upstate New York in the US, my wife and I recently had an opportunity to visit the Great Wall. We were extremely fortunate that our daughter-in-law had done a thorough job in evaluating tour guide options and she decided to use Storm. Her decision turned out to be an excellent one.... More

We were lucky enough to stumble upon Storm accidentally and as it turns out he actually made our holiday. The tour to a secluded part of the wall was as non-touristy as it gets. We were the only ones on the wall in that area. We stopped at several temples along the way - some hidden in caves. It was... More

Agree with the last few reviews, this is only 15 minutes from Mutianyu, yet so quiet. Some very steep climbs but worth it for spectacular views of the wall snaking across a range of hills. 32rmb to get into the Xiangshui Hu Great Wall park. Takes about 3 hours to walk the route.

A group of us ride scooters and motorcycles up here every weekend. As the days get nicer and more and more people get their bikes out it is becoming a little less desirable for us to travel to. But it is the best part of the wall to me.

If you're looking to explore the Great Wall, forget badaling...forget mutianyu... come to xiangshuihu (响水湖长城) This is a beautifully renovated section of the great wall which no one seems to know about yet. When my friend and I went there earlier this year, we were the 哦能力有 ones there and by the looks of the beautiful snow covering the wall,... More
