All the years of watching NYC newscasts and whenever the story was about China this was the scene. The iconic photo of MAO on the red background over looking the people on Tiananmen Square. Between Tiananmen Square and The Forbidden City. Bring your camera!

Across the street from Tienanmen square, the very-obvious bigger than life portrait of Mao gives you the sense of what occurred there.

Very nice place and very excited to get to see my Idol President Mao in front of the square. November is a very cold weather so recommend to bring winter clothing. Pls bring along tripod if want a nice pic at night. You can also...More

This does not go directly into the forbidden city but, there is a good feel as you walk up to the entrance to the forbidden city. There is a security and the place can be crowded.

This square is worth seeing when you are in Beijing. There is a security check at the entrance, and I was asked to open my bag in Chinese! And the guard asked me to explain the contents of my plastic bottle (just an orange drink!)...More

Lot of time for security check. Please consider it before planning. Chance is there to make lots of pics. Just beside it peoples parliment is there and also many other famous government buildings and MAOs memorial.
