This is my favourite section of the Great Wall - I came here on my second trip and have also been to Badaling. It is quite crowded in some spots, but that's to be expected. Quite a long journey from the centre of Beijing so plan it out before you go. Take water/snacks with you - there's a few cafes... More

getting up to the wall was a trek but well worth the effort the views are excellent but the steps are a killer for anybody with a disability the disabled access resembled a toboggan run but was slightly easier to negotiate

Get here early and you can have part of the Great Wall to yourself - no other tourists in your pictures. You can walk the easy bits or do some steep climbs. There is a toboggan run which you can use as an alternative to the cable car for returning to the entrance - it was great fun and a... More

A dream come true after many years of trying to get here. Even acknowledging that much of the wall here has been rebuilt it is still an awe inspiring sight. Coming in mid winter was a great time, very few tourists and not many domestic tourist either so no crowds. We were very lucky with the weather, bright and sunny... More

I've been to Mutianyu twice now, once in winter and once in summer. It's a great spot to visit. You can walk up or take the chair lift. Then you can take a toboggan down. Definitely worth a visit to strike the great wall off of your bucket list!

We were at the Great Wall on a cold November day but it was fascinating. Wonderful photo opportunities, beautiful place. There are many, many steps so be aware that not all will be able to walk the Wall.

We took our mothers (they are in their 70's) up the wall. It takes you up in a chair lift, and you can either take the same lift down, or ride the mountain slide down! The mountain slide is a fun way to top off the experience. The walking on the wall was a bit difficult for the elders, but... More

A fairly quiet part and well restored. You can walk for literally miles if you want to and the views are just incredible.

After 30 years - I've revisited the Great Wall of China and I'm still in awe of this immense structure. The cable car ride up was fun and saved the legs a bit but recommend to go during the week and you've got the wall to yourself!

This is definitely a must do! We were there in November and we had a little bit of freezing rain and some snow so the slide down was closed for safety reasons. This is definitely a hike but it is amazing to stand there and understand the time and culture when this was built and be totally amazed by the... More
