On 21 July 2018, the writer went to Shek O by taking metro to Sheu Kei Wan station and then bus No. 9 to the final stop in the early morning. There were facilities such as toilet, fresh water shower bath and changing room. After...More
Nice spot HK getaway. A bit far but worth the trip. A petty they took the barbecue. Can be a bit crowded on weekends or public holidays. Nice relaxed atmosphere and with good restaurant options around.
Shek O is the perfect example of what amazes me about Hong Kong! You would never know you're just a couple of miles away from the concrete jungle that is Hong Kong island. This is definitely a touristy area (if you're looking for more essential...More
I have been on this beach during the trail from Chai Wan - Shek O - Dragon's Back - Chai Wan. Its a small fishing village typical beach with gold sand surrounded by big and smaller rocks. They even have a lifeguard here! At the...More
It’s far, relatively small and the water isn’t always clean. But we love it here. There are minibuses and buses but we usually cab. The beach itself is clean and soft, for Hong Kong.
We usually hire an umbrella (around Hk$60, but you can try...More
My favourite Hong Kong Island beach. Shek O is nestled between two small hills and looks out on several islands. The beach itself is 200-300 meter long. Generally the water quality is decent unless you come after a major storm.
Transport is fairly convenient with...More
I found it easy to get to on public transport. Yes it was out the way from where I was, but various ways to get there. I took an uber there and the bus back.
The beach was stunning. Big crashing waves, clean golden sand...More
Hopefully the day will be clear so you have enhanced views. Lots of walking trails and some lead you down to the beaches. Can spend the whole day walking and exploring. Pack lots of drink if it's hot as there aren't places to purchase water.
This is not a must-see when coming to HK. However, if you spare a day trip, you should consider this place. It is one of the many beautiful beaches in HK. However, it is not easy to reach here. Your best options are driving or...More

It deppends on what are you planning, the beach is small and the waves are just perfect for surf but, is kinda far away and there is just 1 bus once in a while during day so if you are planning to stay the whole night there are some cheap places, the village is really small with 3 or 4 options for food, my suggestion, visit Shek O early morning so you can enjoy almost the whole day and don't miss the buss otherwise you will be stuck there. And when it comes to other Hong Kong beaches I suggest you Repulse Bay but to be honest Shek O is way better.
