You might want to read up on the history of this extensive park so you get a feel of it's importance in Nanjing's (and China's) history. Once you're actually there, there's virtually nothing in English to help you understand what it's all about, although there...More

The palace is full of historical significance and the curator had included lots of information (in Chinese) on the historical background of the palace. The gardens and small lakes are beautiful and well-kept and are probably one of the highlights of the place. One of...More

Detailed history of Nanjing. From dynasty to present. Lots of exhibits. If you read and walk through the whole place, may even take you 3-4hrs to look thru

We had a nice time strolling through the gardens, but learned very little as there were few signs in English. It would have been better if we'd read about the history there ahead of time.

Nanjing was the capital city of China before the establishment of the Communist state in 1949. The presidential palace is a gem of an attraction with very interesting displays of historical significance. Expect to spend half a day on your visit.
