Nice place to spend a couple of hours exploring 4 dioramas on Indonesian history right in Marlioboro. Informative and well executed dioramas. It's indoors and AC too if you need to escape the heat. Toilets are v basic. Interesting for small boys and military /...More

Interesting museum with plenty of potential. However, most of the translation provided in the museum was not very helpful to non-Indonesian speakers. The museum could be better maintained as well. Overall it did provide a decent explanation of the struggle for Indonesian independence. It had...More

Like the name suggests, it's a museum and it gives you the overall view of various historical happenings in Indonesia. The best thing I found is the beautiful dioramas to depict the incidents.

This is of course informative like every museum. With a short movie room about the history. Examples of living, clothing and carving from former time.

There is a short video showing the history of independence, and then dozens of dioramas on different aspects of the independence movement. I actually enjoyed seeing the different dioramas and learning more about the history of Indonesia. Note that the museum is closed on Mondays.

It might be that I was expecting too much from sultan's palace, but there was not much to see, except the guards with interesting knives

Benteng Vredeburg or Fort Vredeburg is a surprising place for me. There are not many Dutch era military buildings, especially of this size, that have survived. And both the buildings and the grounds seem to be well maintained. We did not have time to explore...More

Piece of historical adventure. Old fashioned museum. You would like it if you like visiting museums otherwise you would be better off wandering the alleys of Malioboro or the markets.

Unless you are Indonesian or Dutch, and take a special interest in Dutch colonial rule and / or the Indonesian struggle for independence, there is really nothing to see in Vredeburg.
