My Mom and I had a Japanese visitor in town who wanted to get some authentic Peranakan souvenirs. We found Rumah Bebe's website and thought it would probably be the best place to do so. Too bad we didn't see their TripAdvisor reviews beforehand, or else we would not have visited them... I was so appalled by their attitude that... More

Get an overdose of Peranakan food (tiny selection on Sun). What people come for are the amazing batiks and bewildering variety of baju kebaya worn by the Nyonya.

Forget about the cheap souvenirs in Chinatown! Buy something culturally relevant and beautiful crafted from the Peranakan community at Rumah Bebe. From beautifully hand painted Tiffin carriers, to porcelain bowls, antique silver waist belts, and hand stitched beaded slippers. You'll find it all here. Also, the food remained authentically home cooked, and it has the best Assam Laksa in town!... More

Dropped in while walking around Joo Chiat attracted by the beautiful shopwindow and colorful sets of tiffins. They not only sell souvenirs and Peranakan utensils, but homemade Peranakan specialties which were delicious. My friend and I bought beautiful tiffins although the shop lady was not very helpful and kind.

I accidentally found this shop, looking to understand the Peranakan culture more, and to buy a souvenir or two. Despite the colorful exterior and (presumably) interesting things they offer, 5 minutes tops, I was out of there with bad experience to take home with me. The owners were quite rude. The only time they bothered to entertain or talk to... More

Rumah Bebe has many interesting Peranakan food items, as well as many beautiful Peranakan tableware and utensils. My mother and I popped in after a few of the tiffin carriers caught our eye and we were interested in purchasing them. When we entered the shop, the owner was in the middle of selling items to some Japanese tourists and left... More

This is a little gem of a shop in the vibrant Katong area. We were recommended to visit this shop by our local friends in Singapore so we stopped by on the way to the airport. What a lovely surprise - when we entered the store, the staff were just bringing out freshly baked curry puffs. We soon realised that... More

Despite negative reviews here, we decided to visit Rumah Bebe. this shop doesn't pretend to be something it isn't. They have the best curry puffs and peranakan food. The puffs sell out very fast- usually by morning. Everythng is homemade. The shop has a wide array of traditional peranakan outfits and beaded shoes. You don't need good service if there... More

The Joo Chiat area is the traditional home of Peranakan culture in Singapore, an ethnic group descending from the blending of Chinese and Malay families in the 15th century. The neighbourhood is packed with colourful shops, local characters, and quiet charm. The main streets overflow with diners enjoying katong laksa, the signature Peranakan spicy noodle soup. Signs of youthful entrepreneurship are visible as well, with modern cafes, bars, and shops abounding.
