We'd just arrived in Santiago and decided to take a walk around town. We were just waiting to cross the road on the way from Plaza de Armas to the Central Market when some toe rag in a baseball cap ripped a gold chain from...More

The place to be if you want to each lunch like the locals - huge old building packed full of small eateries and odd little stalls selling things you never knew you wanted

Most of the edge is a fish market with narrow aisles and lots of people crowding them. When you get past that to the centre, there is a hall with a lot of restaurants, some with more touts than customers and they're very aggressive. We...More

Went on a tour with Urban Adventures. Always love the hustle and bustle of markets - this was one of the best. Had a snack at one of the restaurants and tasted a mixed fish pastry - delish, and went down very well with a...More

See your seafood, as you sit in a tiny restaurant where they cook it for you. Markets alongside dozens of tiny eateries, and larger ones in the centre of this huge space. The building itself is a work of art. From the centre you can...More

This market it just like every market you have been to before. It is crowded, noisy and smelly. Unless you are actually going there to buy something I fail to see why one would bother. We were on a walking tour that took us through...More

Noëlle from Chile Cooks gets full marks for navigating us through a very complicated space with hundreds of stalls selling everything you can imagine. It would be easy to get very lost in here! That said, not a bad place to get lost.

Skip this "touristic attraction". Smelly, rundown and absolutely not worth the effort of walking thorough the place.

I think some restaurants, located in Mercado Central, will be opened on Xmas Day, for lunch. But you'd better email or call theml
