It is a good jumping off spot for going to museums, the market, the cathedral, etc. Or, you could sit awhile and watch the people. I'd allow a half hour for it.

The Plaza das Armas is one if not the most famous monument of Santiago. It also shleters Santiago's catedral, But is is at the same time the place were a lot of traffic happens. It is at that intersection that Santiago is split into two : poor and weathly.

The Plaza de Armas itself is not especially beautiful, but the things that surround it are really interesting - museums, the cathedral, etc. In September the Plaza de Armas is nicer than usual, for many festivities regarding the national holidays take place there. Just don't eat on the restaurants that surround this square - way too expensive and the food... More

Due to earthquakes and fires over the centuries, very little of colonial Santiago remains, but the Plaza de Armas is at the center of what's left. It's now a lovely park that the locals hang out in in good weather - benches, statues, fountains pull people in. The plaza is surrounded by a handful of remaining old buildings, mostly from... More

Plaza de Armas is the center of the city of Santiago and not to be missed. It is the heart of the city and should be enjoyed. We were there at Christmas and people were shopping and the plaza was decorated. There is the Cathedral, Museum and Office buildings that surround the square. It is summertime and people are sitting... More

Santiago has grown incredibly since my first visit in 1995, today so many new skyscrapers, including the tallest building in the southern hemisphere. I've always found on my numerous trips through Chile, the people are so friendly!

Nice shady square in the central historic district. The cathedral, History Museum and the Pre-Colombian museum are right there. Stop into the Information center for a great map of Santiago.

All distances are measured from this square, which was beautifully decorated when we were there, just after Christmas. Not a place to miss, but as others say, do be careful with your money, as I think pick-pockets are probably rife.

Santiagio's Plaza de Armas is a wonderful place to rest your feet while walking around town; you can catch live music in the bandstand, grab lunch across the street, peruse the work of local artists, and then bargain shop to your heart's content at the myriad street stalls that run several blocks to the east of the plaza. It's a... More
