Certainly you want to see this cathedral, located downtown in the old armory district, but it is nothing special. Beautiful interior with thypical statuary that you would find in most cathedrals of the period. Visit is less than 30 minutes.

A large cathedral, attractive although certainly not comparable to what one can see in Europe. It is located on a pleasant square with other interesting examples of South American building, and walking the streets nearby gives one a nice feel for the varied architecture the city has to offer

Experiencing, certainly around Christmas time, churches and cathedrals is always interesting. The cathedral in Santiago isn't different and you'll notice some interesting details like where traditional elements are mixed with virgin statues, or where the confessional (opposed to Europe) is completely open and you just see someone having a confession session with a priest. Interesting.

If you are Catholic, a must see. Services every day, also confessions. No entry fee. Could do with some english brochures.

We visited the Cathedral on a Sunday morning and they were busy with a service. Obviously it was in Spanish so we could not follow it but found it very moving and the inside was beautiful.

I'm an active Catholic so I was stupefied to see the Cathedral's doors barred. See pix. Make evangelization tough if you turn your back on the world.

Although the cathedral is huge and has some lovely statues, carvings and religious artifacts, it lacks the beauty and awe and inspiration of European cathedrals. This also resulted in the lack of a sense of reverence. More a check off your list of the sights of Santiago...

Make sure you take the time to explore the interior of the cathedral. You will be rewarded with beauty: the stained glass, the statues, and the architecture.

We visited on a Sunday during mass and therefore we weren't able to freely walk around, but it is an interesting site to visit
