We were hesitant to visit Antisana Ecological Reserve because of the rains but since we wanted to maximize our birding trip to Ecuador, my husband and I decided to go for it. It was really cold up in the mountains. I recommend wearing warm clothing. It took us about an hour and a half to reach it. The road was... More

The Antisana Ecological reserve is immense at 120,000 hectares. The most accessible route is via Pintag about 60 km SE of Quito then past the quarries and into the park on the road to the Laguna La Mica. This is true Paramo and the vistas are splendid but Antisana attracts clouds and it can be totally obscured for weeks and... More

I visited many reserves in Ecuador and this one is the finest in every possible way. Great views of mountains, lakes, glaciers and a rugged ride to the base camp. The climb was great. Getting into the reserve needs two kinds of permits from the local land owners and must be arranged through a guide. It's bit complicated but totally... More

Just returned from a full day tour with Luis from Suviatour. What a beautiful surprise! We so enjoyed the views and Luis was a fantastic guide. He was as enthusiastic about the nature and animals as we were. He took time to point out and educate us about the different birds- and we were lucky enough to see 6 condors... More

Beatiful day trip from Quito. Picked up from your hotel will head down to Los Chillos Valley into Pintag town from there easy acces to Antisana. Stop on the side road to watch Condors nest. The only place to see them in the wild.

WOW, what an experience we had here, esp. with our 2 boys. Just a gorgeous site to behold. We went this past winter break around Xmas, pretty much had the place to ourselves, not too 'touristy' just enjoying the beautiful landscape...don't forget to do the trek to see the La Mica lagoon as well! a must visit to both!

We spent the day there with a private birding guide. We saw most of the special birds- Condors and other raptors, Cinclodes, Black-faced Ibis, Sword-billed, Giant, and Trainbearer Hummingbirds (at feeders before entrance) and the Ecuadorian Hillstar. We also saw all of the special waterfowl at one if the lakes. This is open, high and scenic country- the paramo is... More

This is a very large and wild place. Approx 27 Km from the nearest town, the road is generally pretty good for a reserve road. We drove very slowly with our guide, stopping frequently and points he knew there would be birds. We saw many of the mountain species, except the Andean gull and were blessed to see a soaring... My husband and I booked a full day’s birding with Renato Espinosa. He picked us up at our hotel in Quito at 6 am with coffee and sandwiches and we set out for our first stop which was Antisana National Park. Our main goal here was Andean Condor and Renato maneuvered us in the perfect spot to watch an adult... More

We took a day trip out of Quito to visit the Antisana Reserve and Lake Mica. The drive out there was spectacular. Lots of volcanic cones everywhere you looked and we did manage to get a glimpse of the snows on the Antisana Volcano peeking out of the clouds. We saw two other people on our whole day!!! The views... More
