Unfortunately the National Museum is still closed and no one I talked to (Front desk, concierge, cab drive, city tour guide) knew when it would be open.

Most people agree that the National Museum of the Central Bank has the largest and most interesting collection of archaeological and historical items in Ecuador, but it has been closed for 'renovation' for at least a year. [Privately, a loca person confided that it was closed due to some sort of corruption.] It is impossible to obtain a reliable estimate... More

My husband and I went with his family (locals) to the museum. When we got there we were told that it would remain closed until Jan 15. The reason my family was told, is that there was corruption within the administration where items began to be unaccounted for... This will be a stop for us on our next trip to... More

Funny old thing TA. I tried to provide some useful information, but apparently as the museum was closed I could not write a review to provide this information. Anyway, I'm going to try again to provide an 'authentic review' that fulfils all the review criteria and prevents you from wasting your time by trying to visit a closed attraction. A... More

Closed as of August 2016. We were told by a local street vendor outside of the Casa de la Cultural complex that it was not scheduled to reopen until October.

Great presentation of Equador's history including live performances. This is an excellent place to get an overall view of where the county's been historically.

I got off the bus at the Casa de la Culture station. The Museo Nacional seemed to be closed, surrounded by a collection of discarded rubbish, bums and down-and-outs. The ticket office was closed and no sign of activity. So I went in the neighbouring Casa de la Cultura Ecuatoriana and asked the security guard and what looked to be... More

We visited the museum 12 February and it looks like the museum is still going through renovation. It is free and you can walk around and there are several exhibits on display including a large section on how they restore old paintings (although nothing is translated from Spanish, so we could not understand most of the wording describing the process)....
